Job Title: Lead Retail Buyer

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • Develop and execute an enterprise category assortment plan, procurement, pricing and profit strategy
  • Partner with key stakeholders to translate assortment plan into a merchandising plan and store level planograms
  • Manage and review the performance of a large supplier base leveraging effective communication and building relationships that drive engagement and performance
  • Manage a large portfolio of suppliers to source products, strengthen overall product mix and create a merchandise range that meets the objectives of the organization
  • Negotiate pricing and deals that ensures enterprise competitiveness in the market and set up commercial and service level agreements with suppliers
  • Maintain company’s gross profit (GP’s) and margins per department and category
  • Ensure suppliers adhere to quality, service and best practice initiatives
  • Carry out supplier bench marking activities and provide market / competitor analysis to key stakeholders
  • Conduct supplier line reviews (to ensure that bestsellers reach their full potential and slow sellers are minimized), assortment analysis, item planning and forecasting
  • Manage supplier performance to optimize sales volume and profitability and resolve supplier queries
  • Leverage data analytics to maximize sales performance, profitability and grow market share and to identify new commercial opportunities
  • Conduct financial analysis and take proactive steps to increase profitability
  • Identify and manage risks within the supply chain
  • Support retail manager and sales team through consistent communication and product updates
  • Plan and deliver market leading, customer insight driven marketing promotions and events in conjunction with suppliers
  • Develop and lead a high performing team providing day to day coaching and feedback to ensure they exceed their targets whilst giving them the opportunity to be their best

Minimum Qualifications

  • A relevant Bachelor’s Degree
  • A Master of Business Administration is highly desirable
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply(CIPS) certification may be beneficial
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft office suite

Minimum Experience:

  • Preferably at least 6 years extensive experience as a senior buyer/procurement specialist or category manager in the retail industry
  • Previous experience in commercial and strategy functions
