Human Resource Associates is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Head of Finance (Financial Controller)

Location:
Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Description:
Financial Accounting and Reporting

1.) Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports appropriate for users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
2.) Develop, implement and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
3.) Ensure that all statutory obligations of the company are met including Withholding Tax payments, Company Income Tax, Employee Income Tax, VAT, etc.; and liaise with external Tax Authorities where necessary like Federal Inland Revenue Services.
4.) Prepare necessary supporting information for annual audit and liaise with external auditors as required.
5.) Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
6.) Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and petty cash.
7.) Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts.
8.) Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and employee payroll.
9.) Ensure personnel and financial information is secure and stored appropriately.
10.) Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure assets are properly recorded.
11.) Prepare financial reports as required. (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports)

Payroll Preparation and Administration
  • Ensure the pay schedule of each staff is appropriately constructed and documented.
  • Oversee all payroll functions to ensure employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Negotiate and manage employee insurance and benefits plan.
  • Process and submit statutory and benefits remittances on time – Pension fund; NHIS
Budget Preparation
  • Ensure guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and prepare annual budget in consultation with the MD/CEO and/or Financial Consultant.
  • Assist Heads of Department with the preparation of budgets for funding applications.
Project Management Accounting
1.) Plan, allocate and disburse funds for business operations.
2.) Ensure proper project cost control practices.
3.) Maintain financial records for each project in a manner that facilitates management reports.
4.) Ensure accurate and timely financial statements are prepared in accordance with contract agreements with funders (Banks).
5.) Provide accurate and timely reporting on financial activity of individual projects.

Information Technology
  • Evaluate the need for new technology to meet company's financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements.
  • Advise on appropriate technology that meets company's information requirements and financial resources.
Risk Management
  • Maximize income where possible and appropriate.
  • Management and control of cost.
  • Proper review of payment clauses to minimise financial risk exposure.
  • Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the company.
Treasury
  • Negotiate with Banks for lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate.
  • Assist with sourcing of funds for financing company’s projects.
  • Manage key banking relationship to facilitate divisional operations.
Business Relationship
  • Establish and maintain positive financial business relationships with external clients and partners to achieve company’s goals.
  • Manage relationships with counterpart Finance Personnel of company’s clients to ensure hitch-free operations and prompt collection of receivables.
  • Establish and maintain internal working relationship to cooperatively and effectively set goals, resolve problem, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Financial Planning and Organisation
  • Develop financial business plans and forecasts.
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities.
Other Responsibilities
  • Delegate appropriate responsibilities to the Finance team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Mentor and coach the Finance team on departmental deliverables.
  • Ensure Team Participation and proper communication/feedback network.
  • Ensure timely bi-annual and yearly performance appraisal of all Finance Team members.
  • Represent the company on financial matters in meetings.
Academic Qualifications
  • University degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management.
  • An MSc in Finance or an MBA will be an added advantage.
Professional Certification
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA); Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
