Since 1971, Family Health International (FHI) has been at the forefront of public health research and intervention programs in the developing countries. In collaboration with national governments, local communities and leading research institutions, FHI delivers services and conducts research in HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases and reproductive health to improve the lives and well-being of some of the world's most vulnerable populations. In Nigeria, FHI is engaged in providing public health services and implementing programs in HIV/AIDS, TB, reproductive health, malaria, and health systems strengthening in partnership with the Government of Nigeria.

To strengthen our operations in the country, we are seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:

Assistant Accountant

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will perform diverse accounts payable and reporting functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in accurate keeping of all books of account for the project, including maintenance of the checking account, equipment and supply registers and all accounting records
  • Support the accountants in reviewing all payment requests and determine the propriety and accuracy of all expenditures
  • Assure completeness of supporting documentation and coding in accordance with FHI policies and procedures
  • Supervise the cashiers in the preparation of payment vouchers; attach supporting documentation and write checks and submit for review by the Finance Manager and Associate Director Finance
  • Prepare workshops schedule/payment to participants and retire same for review by the Financial Accountants
  • Carry out all FHI banking transactions such as cash/check lodgments and collect bank statements and bank confirmation
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for review by the Finance Manager
  • Manage the petty cash imprest account for the country office
  • Prepare and submit request for replenishment of imprest petty cash account and ensure proper coding and recording of all petty cash expenses
  • Assist the accountants in preparing monthly and annual financial reports, including financial status of sub-projects account activities with accompanying bank documentation and receipts
  • Assist the accountants in tracking travel advances to ensure that they are retired in time File payment vouchers, supporting documentations and workshop and travel retirements

Minimum Requirements
  • University degree or higher diploma in accounting, finance or business administration or its recognized equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in accounting related to NGOs and community level programs with increasing responsibility.
