Intercommunity Development, Social Organization, formally Integrated Development Services (IDS) is a voluntary, not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 2004 by Peace-loving and law-abiding women and youth and incorporated with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT/No.60576) and was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2013.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: ECW Project Officer

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

  • Under the supervision of the ECW Project Manager, the Education Project Officer(s) provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for education programs/projects within the three areas of the Program from development planning to delivery of results, preparing, executing, managing and implementing a variety of technical and administrative program tasks to facilitate program development, implementation, program progress monitoring, evaluating and reporting.
  • To be based either in Biu, Hawul or Damboa LGA of Borno State with a regular visit to Maiduguri.

Specific Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Education Project Officer(s) include but are not limited to the following:
Community Outreach:

  • Conduct an initial assessment of the protection risks and concerns in his/her area of responsibility with an aim of defining contextually relevant community mobilization strategy.
  • Under the supervision of the line manager and based on the assessment’s findings, design an array of age and gender appropriate social events, educational programmes, awareness-raising sessions.
  • Ensure close supervision of daily community outreach activities, support the staff in prioritizing interventions if needed, overcoming challenges and seeking synergies with other actors.
  • Provide daily guidance and support to the staff, suggest changes, updates and improvements of relevant awareness-raising, psychosocial, educational activities when needed.

Child Protection:

  • Promote and ensure project activities are in line with child protection and humanitarian principles.
  • Ensure the project activities are well-integrated into the North-eastern Nigeria child protection system and humanitarian coordination practices and guidelines.
  • Ensure IDS Child Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Minimum Standards are mainstreamed through all the programmatic activities.
  • Report serious cases of abuse committed against children to the ECW Project Manager with respect to confidentiality.

Education in Emergencies:

  • Liaise with humanitarian actors and government authorities for coordinated and harmonized education programming in the project areas.
  • Supervise and provide technical support to the project team members for the quality implementation of the educational activities.
  • Manage and update the monitoring tools used for the project on a regular and timely basis.

Coordination & Representation:

  • Work in close collaboration with IDS partners and other key actors.
  • Coordinates with other IDS sectors to ensure implementation of standardized activities and with other departments (programme and support) of IDS.
  • Participate in meetings held at site level in her/his field of expertise, when relevant and necessary.

Requirements
Education:
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or University Degree (BSc or Higher) in Education or Economics, Psychology, Sociology or other Social Science field required
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional work experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in Education at the national and international level, some of which in a developing country and in an emergency, context is required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Local language (Kanuri, Babur and Hausa) is an asset.
