News: CIS Engages NYSC To Enhance Membership

CIS - In its determination to enhance its membership, the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has engaged top officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State on the benefits of being a member and chartered.

The engagement took place during a public enlightenment programme, which was part of the NYSC Lagos State Chapter's Entrepreneurship Scheme that provided a robust platform for the institute to expose the corps members to the processes of becoming professional stockbroker and the benefits.

Addressing the participants, the CIS's Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Adedeji Ajadi explained that the institute occupies a strategic platform within the structure of the Nigeria capital market as it is pre-occupied with the training and certification of stockbrokers.

Ajadi noted that at present, there are 1, 500 qualified members with over 14,000 registered students. He stated that members of the institute cut across a wide spectrum of the economy including: stockbroking firms, issuing houses, Pension Fund Management institutions, banking, finance houses and insurance companies among others. Ajadi enjoined the corps members to diversify their professional background by becoming registered members of the CIS after fulfilling the basic requirements.

Specifically, he identified the following benefits for being a member to include: Diverse employment opportunities in various sectors of the economy, globally; flexibility of examination in terms of when to write it and number of courses; opportunity for foreign professional certification in investment advisory services, lucrative and rewarding career, prestigious profession, self- employment with minimum capital among others.

Speaking on how to become a student member, Ajadi said the institute had been granted an approval to run Professional Diploma in Securities and Investment in addition to the existing Professional Qualification Scheme.

He noted that the Professional Diploma in Securities is open to those with Ordinary Level Certificates; CIS approved Diplomas, university degree and Higher National Diploma holders without strong background in numerate subjects and other CIS qualifications.
