The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's leading crisis response agencies, providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery and reconstruction for people affected by war and natural disasters. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.

IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread flood disaster. IRC’s Emergency Response Team, with local partner CISCOPE (Civil Society Coalition for Poverty Eradication), implemented a project to support livelihoods and improve WASH in Kogi State from February to May 2013. This was followed by 3-month nutrition and food security program in the same location from October 2013 to January 2014 IRC is now established for long term presence in Nigeria with a program in Adamawa State, North East Nigeria providing critical humanitarian assistance to conflict affected people.

International Rescue Committee is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Women Protection and Empowerment Officer


Location: Mubi /Adamawa state
Start Date: asap
Duration: One year with possible extension

Scope:

She/he will oversee the implementation of activities ensure program quality and adherence to international standards and the IRC strategy

Responsibilities:
  • Existence of effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including community leaders and other implementing partners
  • Support capacity building trainings
  • Provide trainings and support to partners and community to ensure WPE related risks are mitigated and addressed
  • Provide professional and confidential support ,psychosocial to survivors of GBV
  • Assist the WPE Manager in monitoring activities and tracking indicators of the local partners
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders, women’s groups.
  • Prepare, monitor, and inform all activity-related logistical needs in accordance with IRC policies
  • Maintain an up to date work plan, Keep track of activity implementing and grant spending under adolescent girls activities
  • Document lessons learnt and best practices in implementing
  • Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • BA. in Social Work, Development, or a related field preferred. Candidates with a diploma certificate from a recognized institution will be considered.
  • At least two years demonstrated work experience with, protection programming (such as the protection of young girls), and/or programming for adolescent girls
  • Experience in training, participatory techniques and community mobilization
  • Able to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining attention to quality and detail.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Fluency in English, including writing clear and concise reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills, independence, maturity, respect for others, and flexibility
  • Knowledge of and fluency in Hausa/Fulani
