Over 3,600 graduates have applied to be recruited as Education Marshals (EduMarshals) in Delta State.

According to the Executive Assistant to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on Education Matters, Ms Stella Blaize, the figure was trimmed down to 170 through a selection process, out of which Wednesday last week, 167 candidates took part in an interview exercise.

“From the tight scrutiny, we were able to fish out those that had just School Certificate and those who do not have qualifications at all as well as those that have fake evidence of text message for invitation to attend the interview,” she said.

She also disclosed that at the end of the exercise, 100 candidates would be recruited on merit to join the EduMarshals family in the state.

In an interview shortly after the written test, one of the candidates, Mr Frank Emu from Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state, and Miss Misan Eyegbanren from Warri South commended the state government for giving them the chance to be part of the interview.

EduMarshals are engaged by the state government to ensure that children of school age are not only in school, but do not engage in hawking or other activities during school hours. Parents of offenders are usually sanctioned.
