Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • Our client, a commercial bank requires the service of a highly skilled Metadata manager with Fin-Tech experience. The successful will report to the Team Lead Metadata Management and is a key role in implementing & operationalizing the metadata strategy for Enterprise Data Management.
  • This individual will support the Head of Data Governance in defining metadata & data lineage strategy consistent with the overall data management strategy and support implementation of the strategy at the Enterprise level. The team member will also work on other data related tasks as assigned by the Head of Data Governance and Chief Data Officer.

Key Responsibilities
Overall Accountabilities:

  • Formulate techniques for metadata collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data
  • Constantly drive the optimization of the bank’s source of record with a focus on maintaining data consistency and promptly resolving conflicts that arise
  • Actively drive the recognition and importance of efficient management of business metadata
  • Define how quality is measured, documented (metadata) and how the data life cycle managed
  • Support the Head of Data Governance in implementing data lineage strategy consistently across all covered Information Domains.
  • Work closely with Data Stewards in the identification and documentation of business & technical metadata for all critical data elements for covered Information Domains.
  • Maintain & update metadata requirements. Work closely with IT counterparts to update data models.
  • Assist in documenting source to target data mapping, transformations & controls.
  • Maintain & support business glossaries & technical metadata on metadata repository.
  • Assist in creating procedures & workflows to support metadata management & usage on metadata repository.
  • Support implementation & rollout of metadata platform (Collibra and others)
  • Collaborate with business & technical stakeholders on maintaining metadata repository.
  • Maintain high level of knowledge and expertise related to metadata. Ensure quality & integrity of metadata.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of metadata strategy and standards. Facilitate consistent adoption of metadata standards across the enterprise, demonstrating the value added by adoption.
  • Support the Data Stewards & business for each covered Information Domain document business processes, data flows for critical data elements.
  • Analyze business needs by facilitating business & DMO discussions and reviewing business requirements.
  • Collaborate with business & technical stakeholders to design & implement metadata usage & reporting solutions.
  • Support metadata distribution & usage across the enterprise.
  • Assist on research, development & implementation of special projects, as needed.

Operational Effectiveness, Risk and Control:

  • Assist in driving a culture of Data management across the Access Nation and contribute to enhanced operational efficiency by incorporating the use of best practices and methodology
  • Drive synchronization and management of source of record
  • Manage data as a strategic asset and operationalize data controls and frameworks to sustain the integrity of the data
  • Drive and support the use of a common data dictionary and automated data refinement to effectively run compliance models – really need focus on controls in models
  • Foster a culture of Innovation with enterprise-wide collaboration and partnerships
  • Collaborate on cross functional innovative self-service analytics to eliminate unnecessary manual effort

Leadership and Teamwork:

  • Coordinate data management requirements, the data governance framework (including standards & guidelines) and high-level data architecture to ensure the successful implementation of the data management strategy.
  • Assist with recognizing and upholding digital security systems to protect delicate information.
  • Detail and communicates the data management strategy.
  • Develop and deliver trainings and coaching for increasing Data Management within all segments of the Bank.
  • Ensure strong physical data protection controls are in place.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and transparency around data.

Customers / Stakeholders:

  • Engage appropriate stakeholders in ongoing data protection exercise
  • Provide proper training and awareness for staff on data security requirements
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management, external stakeholders etc.
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and company standards
  • Work proactively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure best practices on data matters
  • Manage and own relationships
  • Assist in ensuring requirements coming from multiple areas are aligned and conflicts are resolved effectively
  • Advisory and Consultancy to our stakeholder community on Data Management related matters.
  • Take care of our customers privacy just as take care of their financial wellbeing and customer journey
  • Where appropriate partner with Group Legal, Data Protection Officer and Compliance to challenge and redefine privacy controls to achieve increased effectiveness and automation
  • Support a proactive privacy approach in support of our data privacy agenda, including “privacy by design”
  • Ability to articulate to colleagues, executives, Audit and our regulators, how we are doing on data.
  • Work with stakeholders to evolve Group Data Policy principles and align to Group values
  • Provide advisory, execution and governance support as needed in respect of regulation impacting Access Banks data agenda
  • Support regulatory engagement at group level and where necessary in support of subsidiaries

Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory Desirable:

  • University Degree and/or professional qualification in an Information Technology related subject and/or Project Management
  • Excellent analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of business intelligence tools.
  • Ability to facilitate metadata sessions with business & technical stakeholders.
  • IT certification and other professional qualification.
  • Proficiency in with data modeling, relational databases & writing SQL queries.

Skills / Competencies:

  • Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices.
  • Knowledge of structured programming, testing, and debugging techniques.
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
  • Ability to verify data input and correct errors.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to provide a range of systems training and/or support activities for users.
  • Knowledge of database construction, management, and retrieval methods.
  • Ability to resolve data input, storage and/or retrieval problems and to design solutions and modifications.
  • Knowledge of computer data processing principles.
  • Ability to analyze operational data requirements and to create and develop databases specific to requirements.
  • Ability to create data capture and input specifications.

  • Familiar with database and BI/Machine Learning/AI concepts.
