Edwin Drake - We are currently representing a successful organisation with a strong reputation in the areas of Power EPC projects that cut across the entire spectrum of power activities: from Generation, through to Distribution. They are now seeking to identify a Chief Operating Officer with expertise in Power/Utilities emerging markets who can lead the company to the next level.

Job Description
The Role:
  • This is an exciting opportunity to lead the next stage of growth and development of an already established organisation, as its Chief Operating Officer.
  • Reporting to the Managing Director, you will essentially act as the second in command and support them in running the day to day operations, as well as driving the growth and expansion in to new markets.
  • Regular interface with the board, also means that you will serve as a key member of the senior executive team, being part of the senior decision making process.
Candidate Profile
  • As a Power/Utilities expert, you have over 15 years of cumulative experience, that has covered both the technical as well as the commercial/managerial spectrums, giving you an in-depth know-how across: contracting and project management, business development, P&L and operations management, just to mention a few.
Specific Experience is Required Across:
  • EPC expertise - bringing 15-20 years of experience in contracting, projects and delivery experience, ideally in the power sector.
  • Power industry - an understanding of the industry, ideally both network and distribution.
  • Commercial skills - a commercial flair for developing business along with financial acumen and negotiating capacity.
  • Emerging market exposure - preferably West Africa, but could also be gained from having worked in India/Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe or South America.
  • Political skills - government liaison will be important in Nigeria to overcome regulatory hurdles, obtain necessary approvals and persuade and influence key stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial - must fit with the entrepreneurial culture of a high growth company. The individual must be comfortable operating without high degrees of oversight and direction.
  • Qualifications - a first degree in a technical discipline such as electrical engineering is ideal, with an MBA desirable.
  • Some exposure to Africa would be beneficial, but is not a prerequisite, although candidates should have extensive international experience, including exposure to emerging markets.
Remuneration
From $200,000 + Benefits and Bonus.
