News: Mimiko Orders Recruitment of 2,000 Teachers in Ondo

The Ondo State government has directed the immediate recruitment of 2,000 teachers into its teaching service.

Speaking with newsmen on the development, on Tuesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, said the governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, had directed the state’s Teaching Service Commission to begin the recruitment exercise in earnest.

Giving details of the exercise, he said 1,300 university graduates with teaching education qualification would be employed.

He added that 200 National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders and 500 non-teaching staff would also benefit from the exercise.

The commissioner said applications forms were to be obtained online by applicants for free, through TESCOM website.

Stressing that applicants must be of Ondo State origin, Akinmade mentioned that the employment process would include Computer Based Test (CBT), with general paper, core subjects and use of English as parameters.

He added that qualified candidates would be interviewed by TESCOM, which had also been saddled with the responsibility of final selection to be followed by one week induction course by successful candidates.

The recruitment drive, according to him, was to strengthen the educational sector and provide jobs for the burgeoning population of unemployed youths in the state.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives’ Committee on Education has described the Ondo State development strides in education as worldclass that deserves emulation by other states.

Chairman of the committee, Honourable Aminu Suleiman, made the assertion on Tuesday, when he led members of the committee on a visit to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, in Akure.

Honourable Suleiman, who said members of the committee were in the state for the 2014 oversight functions to all federal institutions, were thrilled with the level of development, not only in education, but also other sectors in the state.

He saluted the dynamic service and good leadership of Dr Mimiko- led administration to the people of the state.

He, equally, commended the governor for ensuring that a Federal Polytechnic is sited at Ile Oluji, the headquarters of Ile Oluji/ Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state, assuring that the House of Representatives will facilitate the effective take off of the institution.

In his response, Governor Olusegun Mimiko thanked the committee for the visit said it was a deliberate effort by his administration to invest so much in education sector with a view to meeting global best practices.
