Job Title: WASH Supervisor

Location:
Damaturu, Yobe

Job Description:
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Program Manager, the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Supervisor will be primarily responsible for directly managing field assistants implementing activities under the WASH sub sector of the Humanitarian multi-sectorial rapid response mechanism (RRM) program in Yobe state, Nigeria implemented by ACF and funded by USAID. He/ She will also oversee all sanitation and hygiene promotion, and NFIs distribution aspects of the WASH sub sector.
Summary of Key Objectives:
  • Provide support to the WASH Deputy Program Manager to implement the program successfully, harmonizing and developing technical approach; and ensuring that the technical standards, guidelines and methodologies developed are applied
  • Supervise field project teams within the WASH sub sector to ensure compliance, technical quality and coherence in all WASH interventions.
  • Liaise with the WASH technical officer to ensure tracking and reporting of all WASH activities
  • Participate in technical recruitment, training, performance appraisal, and career development of the WASH field teams.
  • Support the Deputy Program Manager in local ACF representation, and coordination with other stakeholders within the intervention area (Yobe state).
Qualifications & Essential Skills:
  • Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health or related Social Sciences with bias in hygiene and Sanitation practices
  • Commitment to ACF mission, values and policy
  • Significant experience in activity planning and team supervision
  • Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive
  • Excellent team, budget and project management, organizational, reporting and representation competencies
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area and local economy
  • Minimum of three years relevant work experience in water and sanitation programs
  • Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English
  • Ability to withstand pressure and work with little or no supervision
  • Knowledge of organizing sanitary surveys using conventional approach methods (PHAST, CHAST, PRA, RRA, CORE, etc.)
Preferred
  • Previous ACF experience
  • Knowledge of major trends in water, sanitation and hygiene sub sector
  • Experience implementing WASH programming on behalf of donors (i.e. USAID, ECHO, DFID, CIDA)
  • Experience in Project Cycle Management
