Job Title: WASH Technical Officer

Location:
Damaturu, Yobe

Job Description:
Under the direction of the WASH Deputy Program Manager, the WASH technical Officer will be primarily responsible for technically overseeing all activities related to water supply (boreholes, hand dug wells, and solar pumped networks) and latrine construction & rehabilitation.

Summary of Key Objectives:
  • Technical oversight in the development of water supply and sanitation infrastructure by monitoring technical performance and providing project designs, technical specifications and Bill of Quantities (BOQs).
  • To support supervision and monitoring of WASH (water supply and sanitation infrastructure) activities e.g. water points and latrines rehabilitation/construction, water quality assessments, establishment of Water User Committees etc.
  • To report WASH technical activities and support the WASH Deputy Program Manager in maintaining regular contact with local stakeholders (including government/local authorities)
Qualifications & Essential Skills:
  • Degree/ Higher National Diploma in Geological, hydraulic, hydrology, Civil, Building Engineering, or equivalent with hands on experience in developing and adopting WASH technologies and designs
  • Commitment to ACF mission, values and policy
  • Activity planning, good organizational ability, professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive
  • Minimum of three years relevant work experience
  • Experience of assessing, reviewing and monitoring technical projects.
  • Competence in building, sanitary and hydraulic infrastructures
  • Knowledge and experience using design and drawing applications.
  • Ability to critically review technical options
  • Ability to creatively adopt models to suit local context
  • Accuracy and keen attention to details, in order to produce high quality documents and maintain good records.
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area and local economy
Preferred
  • Previous ACF experience
  • Experience implementing WASH programming on behalf of donors (i.e. USAID, ECHO, DFID, CIDA)
  • Experience in construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, hand dug wells, and solar pumped networks with overhead reservoir and distribution taps
  • Experience in construction and rehabilitation of VIP latrines
  • Experience in water quality analysis
