Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is a federal government research university located in Zaria, Kaduna State. ABU was founded on October 4, 1962, as the University of Northern Nigeria. The university operates three main campuses: Samaru and Kongo in Zaria, and School of Basic Studies in Funtua. The Samaru campus houses the administrative offices, sciences, social-sciences, arts and languages, education, environmental design, engineering, medical sciences agricultural sciences and research facilities. The Kongo campus hosts the Faculties of Law and Administration. Additionally, the university is responsible for a variety of other institutions and programs at other locations.

Introduction

• On the 12th of August, 2021, The Paul and Mary Achimugu Foundation (PMA), a Foundation incorporated under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, signed an MoU with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to establish a Professorial Chair in Polymer and Textile Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria called "Paul Sunday Achimugu (PSA) Professorial Chair In Polymer and Textile Engineering" for the purpose of promoting educational advancement and pursuit of academic excellence in the area of Polymer and Textile Engineering through teaching, research and publications, in addition to the following:
  • Award of Scholarships to indigent/underprivileged students
  • Award of Academic Excellence to the Best Graduating Student
  • Organizing Annual Lecture Series on critical issues affecting the Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) Sector.

Detailed Description

• The Chair will conduct a wide range of researches on entire CTG value chain challenges and prospects.
• It will also support knowledge enrichment initiatives that assist in evolving a symbiotic relationship between Academia, CTG Sector and the Government.
• The research programme and associated academic activities shall be in consonance with the University’s record of excellence in Polymer and Textile Engineering.
• Applicants shall, therefore, state in clear terms, the vision, mission and expected tangible outputs of the impact-oriented project.

Requirements

• Applicants must be distinguished Professors and Scholars in the areas of Polymer and Textile Engineering / Textile Science and Technology for a minimum period of five (5) years.
• The Chair is strictly for a Professor of Polymer and Textile Engineering/Textile Science and Technology with major research activities in CTG.
• Candidates must possess considerable relevant experience, including demonstrated academic and research leadership.
• Also, candidates must not be above 65 years of age on assumption of office.

Conditions of Service

• The appointment, which is to commence as soon as possible, is for three (3) years in the first instance.
• The conditions and salary are as approved for enhanced Professional Chairs in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
• The Occupant will be required to lead a Seminar biannually, and before the end of each year to organize a major Seminar / Symposium / Lecture among others.
