The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking to employ suitable and qualified candidates for the positions of Maintenance Mechanics (Plumbing) in the Facilities Maintenance Section.

Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic (Plumbing) - FSN-06/FP-08

Basic Function of the Position:

The incumbents specialize in plumbing and mechanical systems operation and maintenance of equipment as directed by the Facility Manager. Systems to include but not limited to; water supply, storage, filtration, disinfection and other water treatments, hot water systems and equipment, piping, tubing, fittings and controls, irrigation, domestic plumbing fixtures including waterless urinals, drainage, sanitary systems, onsite sewage treatment, and storm water management.

  • Completion of Secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman plumber skill is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of journeyman experience in the repair and maintenance of plumbing and mechanical systems is required.
  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required.
  • Full journeyman knowledge of international building, mechanical, and plumbing codes to be able to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work to meet code requirements and techniques is required.
  • Abilities in the following areas is required: diagnosing and repairing filtration systems, water pumps, and hot water systems; testing potable water system components, monitoring of chemical and salt, and taking equipment readings with various meters, hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools to determine appropriate repairs.
  • A valid Nigerian driver’s license is required.
Selection Process
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
Remuneration
Salary: Or - Ordinarily Resident
–N2,629,038 p.a. (Starting basic salary) Position Grade: FSN-06
In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.
NOR - Not Ordinarily Resident – AEFM - US$36,111 EFM/MOH – US$30,991 (Starting Salary) p.a. Position Grade: FP-08
