Job Title: Energy Lawyer

Job Description
- Energy lawyer should have energy business and work experience with power companies, municipal utilities, and all manner of energy producers.
- Much of your work should have involved compliance or making sure energy companies and other involved parties are following the proper laws and regulations.
- Have sound experience work in multiple sectors, including clean energy, electricity, nuclear power, oil, and gas.
Responsibilities
- Drafts and negotiates a variety of commercial agreements (e.g. Confidentiality Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Leases, Supply Agreements, EPC Agreements) and other agreements to support the development team’s activities.
- Support the acquisition of solar and storage projects.
- Partner with internal corporate team to provide legal guidance for renewable energy related issues.
- Provide advice on a wide variety of strategic, regulatory and transactional matters for the Energy Products business around the world, including commercial and consumer matters.
- Structure and negotiate Energy Products sales, service and project finance and development-related transactions including equipment supply, construction, maintenance, lease, power purchase, software services, performance guarantee and warranty and commodity procurement and sales agreements for solar, energy storage and solar + storage projects (both utility scale and behind-the-meter).
- Support creative financing transactions related to the foregoing and the development of generation and storage projects, and lead mergers & acquisitions transactions.
- Review and help prepare responses to requests for proposals and other competitive tenders.
- Advise on new market entry and new product launches for the Energy Products business.
- Support commercial transactions for the Supply Chain group on an as-needed basis.
- Liaise with colleagues in support of consistency of contracts and risk allocation across the global Commercial business.
- Mentor teammates to upgrade knowledge and improve skills and transactional efficiency.
Requirements
- A Degree in Law with certification from Law school (called to the Bar of minimum of 5 years). An MBA will be an added advantage.
- Proficient in relevant laws and regulations, regulatory requirements in the Nigeria power sector.
- Strong knowledge background/orientation with excellent business acumen in company and allied matters, and civil laws.
- Quality legal research and litigation experience
- Excellent writing skill.
- Excellent problem solving skill
- Professional experience/knowledge in both local and international laws.
- Familiar with international trade regulations and business, with experience in advisory roles.
- Strong negotiation skill and the ability to provide support and quality legal advice on business and legal matters to management.
- Have strong communication and management experience (planning, coordinating, and implementation).
- Be honest, diligent and professional certified.
