Job Title: Programmable Logic Controller (Plc)

Core Job Functions / Responsibility
  • The candidate has responsibility to design, manage, install and maintain control engineering systems, machinery and processes within warehouse distribution centers as well as overseeing the technical skill development of the controls engineers.
  • The PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER- PLC will interface with external customers, and has a truly multidisciplinary role, working closely with colleagues across a number of functions, including operations, purchasing and project managements.
  • The ideal candidate is team-oriented with the ability to adapt and problem solve in a continuous improvement environment.
Primary Activities:
  • Work internally with project managers, structuring control teams to work externally with customers to design custom turnkey control systems
  • Develop electrical hardware design and functionality of control systems
  • Develop and design the controls software packages including: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human/Machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • Develop and design the industrial communications network
  • Work closely with CAD designers during development of electrical schematics and detailing
  • Specify bill of materials for internal purchasing department
  • Work closely with manufacturing during control panel assembly
  • Perform all aspects of start-up and commissioning of the control system
  • Completely debug the developed and installed software packages
  • Ensure all changes and modifications are appropriately documented and noted correctly to secure the acceptance
  • Create processes for documentation of customer projects for future referencing and potential utilization of process templates
  • Provide customer training
  • Create and assemble final documentation
  • Travel to customer sites nationwide (possibly international) depending on phase of project
  • Oversee multiple control teams assigned to various technical projects
  • Evaluate and analyze control processes to identify opportunities to increase value for the systems
  • Serve as lead in developing and implementing strategies for targeted improvements, looking at both short and long-term solutions
  • Provide technical skill development and training opportunities for controls engineers
  • Must be flexible and available to travel and work weekends as necessary.
Job Requirements and Skills
  • Graduate Qualifications: A First degree in Mechanical Engineering or B.tech Only from a recognised University REQUIRED.
  • Post Graduate Qualifications: Master's degree or Post Graduate Qualification would be of ADVANTAGE.
  • Experience: 7-10 years of work experience, NYSC is ESSENTIAL.
  • Certifications and Training Requirements: Relevant Certifications would be of ADVANTAGE.

  • Experienced leader with senior control systems engineering experience leading controls team
  • Project management and project technical lead experience
  • PLC ladder logic programming, (i.e. Rockwell Automation, Siemens)
  • Material Handling Equipment (MHE): motor control circuits, sorters, merges and photo-eyes
  • Control panel design
  • Hardware / Schematic design
  • HMI software design (i.e. Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Inductive Automation)
  • Working knowledge of national and international electrical and safety codes and practices.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment
  • Excellent customer facing skills dealing with equivalent senior managerial types and above
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • AutoCAD
  • Specifying power conversion experience
  • Print and Apply and Weigh-in-Motion
  • RSLogix - 5, 500 and 5000
  • SCADA programming (Wonderware, RSView, Citect)
  • Attention to detail
