Michael Stevens Consulting - Our client, an extra-ministerial department set-up to oversee the management of pensions for pensioners not transiting to the Defined Contributory Scheme has recently received the mandate to carry out its functions as stipulated by the Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2004.

Job Description
  • This role is primarily responsible for establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports.
  • Identify risks and long-term financial implications of financial decisions and advise management accordingly.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Provide status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting key financial data.
  • Coordinate and manage budget and control expenses effectively.
  • Authorize expenditure/ transactions in line with the Organisation's approved authority limits.
  • Coordinate timely preparation of financial statements, ensuring the statements reflect the Organisation's financial position
  • Ensure that the Organisation's financial reporting process is in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide timely, accurate and relevant financial information for decision making.
  • Ensure availability of adequate funding as required for the Organisation's operations, in line with its financial policies.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any other Social Science discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years work experience of which at least 3 years should have been in a management position.
  • Professional accounting certification is mandatory.
Key Competency Requirements:
  • Advanced financial and accounting knowledge, including in depth understanding of public sector international and Nigerian accounting standards.
  • Excellent leadership/supervisory, coaching and mentoring and people management skills.
