Michael Stevens Consulting - Our client, an extra-ministerial department set-up to oversee the management of pensions for pensioners not transiting to the Defined Contributory Scheme has recently received the mandate to carry out its functions as stipulated by the Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2004.

Job Title: Deputy Director/Assistant Director, Human Resources

Job Description
  • Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, this role is primarily responsible for coordinating the day to day activities of the Human Resources Division and championing the implementation of an effective and efficient human resource strategy, policies and procedures
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the deployment of appropriate people management structures, policies and processes that enhance the organization's ability to attract, develop and retain the quality of employees required to attain optimal performance
  • Periodically review and update job descriptions to reflect changes in organisation structure and responsibilities.
  • Ensure compensation administration is in compliance with prevailing tax laws and regulations.
  • Formulate and implement effective performance and career management strategies that would help sustain a performance driven culture and ensure appropriate balance between staff's personal and organizational goals
  • Implement the organisation's performance management system to ensure it is objective, equitable, transparent and merit-driven.
  • Intervene and assist in resolving disciplinary cases, appeals and related HR service delivery issues
Job Requirements
  • First degree in Social Science or any related discipline
  • Relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 16 years work experience in which at least 3 years should have been in a similar position.
Key Competency Requirements:
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience of HR strategy articulation and implementation
  • Knowledge and understanding of the components and new thinking in Human Capital Management (HR strategies, manpower sourcing, placement, learning and development, performance management, career management, reward and recognition, retention and exit management).
  • Advanced knowledge of Nigerian labour and employment legislation
  • Ability to think strategically and holistically and appreciate the systematic impact of various policies, practices, issues and solutions on HR.
  • Excellent leadership/supervisory, coaching and mentoring and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.
