The
NationaL Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) was established in 1992 by decree no. 33 to make available in the Nigerian market, the primary and intermediate capital products required for machine and equipment design, fabrication and mass production, in order to provide the enabling environment for a sustainable industrialization of the country. To implement this mandate, NASENI was to establish infrastructure development Centres in the various fields of Science and Engineering. The primary target is to empower small and medium scale industries, through impartation of technologies, engineering principles and practices for the production of equipment that will meet international standards as well as flourish local capital goods industry.

materials and their production systems, and the transfer of these to private sector satellite industries:
(vi) National Engineering Design Development Institute (NEDDI), Nnewi (formerly, National Engineering Design Development Centre (NEDDEC)).
The development of engineering design capacity and its dissemination to Small and Medium EnterprisesE (SMEO) in order to standardize Nigerian made products and make them globally acceptable.
(vii) Power Equipment and Electrical Machines Development Institute (PEEMADI), Okene (formerly, Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Centre (PEEMADEC)).
The development and maintenance of power and electrical equipment and their production systems and the transfer of these to private sector satellite industries.
(viii) Prototyping Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesa
The development of engineering prototypes and their production systems and the transfer of these to private sector satellite industries.
In the recent time, the Agency has added a new centre for Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Jalingo, Taraba state (AMTC) with sole mandate in advanced manufacturing technology.
The Agency has since effected a paradigm shift to utilize Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and state of the art research facilities in science and engineering for global competitiveness with a drive towards achieving vision 20:20:20 of the present administration, as well as providing Front End Engineering Design (FEED) requirement to service provision of spares in the oil and gas sector and the entire manufacturing sector of Nigeria economic.
2.0 STATE OF ART RESEACH FACILITIES IN NASENI
The Agency and its eight development institutes in various part of Nigeria have been equipped with various research facilities not limited but including those listed below:
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Facilities
NASENI Institutes are equipped with Computer Numerical Controlled machine with three axis movement and capability to handle machining of intricate machine parts by computer programme. They include but not limited to Vertical Milling Centre; CNC Lathe, Electric Discharge Machine, Computerized grinder, Rapid Prototyping Machine and Coordinate Measuring Machine, laser and plasma cutters and welders. These facilities also allow design and production of intricate moulds.
Computer Aided Design Facilities (CAD):
NASENI has established a Virtual Manufacturing Laboratory (VML) at its headquarters and institutes which provides state-of-the-art hardware, software and intellectual capacity for design, engineering simulation, and computer modeling of engineedng processes, plants, machinery and spares. This will ensure rapid prototyping and hence reduce time and money required from moving from conceptual design to pilot scale plant development.

High Power Computing (HPC) Laboratory for Modeling and Simulation
Currently, NASENI hosts one of the 3 HPC labs in Africa. The HPC is a supercomputer with the task of addressing the need of getting solutions to complex Scientific and Engineering challenges encountered in research institutions as well as the manufacturing sector. With multiples of processors embedded in it, the HPC helps to reduce computing time on simulations.
CAD/CAM SOFTWARE
The following software which are used in conjunction with some of the various facilities listed above are also available in the Agency; Pro-Mechanical, Auto CAD, Granter design for material selection, Comsol-multiphysics and Ansys-multiphysics with modules covering all aspect of modeling and simulation in science and engineering analysis, Matlab e.t.c
NANOSCIENCE AND NANOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY
The Agency is also equipped with various equipments for Nanoscience research of international recognition. They include but not limited to X-Ray Diffractometer, SEM, XFR, UV-Visible Spectrometer, and various highly sensitive microscopes.
POWER SUPPLY
NASENI has un-interrupted power supply from stand alone generating sets complimented by solar panels dedicated for research activities.
