Job Description
  • The Chief Operating Officer is a senior executive with responsibility to ensure optimum performance, both short-term and long-term, as regards the visibility, profitability and the market position of the company.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develops and directs the implementation of the overall business strategy
  • Works to ensure that firm is run on sound ethical, sustainable, commercial and professional principles so that defined corporate objectives are pursued and achieved
  • Regularly analyses the organisation's financial viability and cost structure and also acts to ensure appropriate measures are undertaken to monitor and reduce costs in relation to the operations
  • Works with the National Sales & Marketing Manager in order to increase the organisation's market share based on constant review of the competitive environment
  • Drives firm's operations and performance to meet business objectives in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with the Head, Human Resources to effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations
  • Participates in all board and relevant board committees meetings
  • Reports regularly to the Board on the achievement of strategic objectives, market performance of products, organizational development plans and overall business performance
  • Serves as a link between the Board and the Executive management team on all matters relating to the organisation
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains cordial relationships with key stakeholders
  • Act as the Company's ambassador and spokesman in matters involving external stakeholders

  • Strategic Vision and Agility-ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
  • Capacity Building ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
  • Leadership and Organization-exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower top-notch leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.
  • Action Oriented enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary.
  • General Management-thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing.
Qualifications
  • First degree in Business Administration or any related discipline
  • An MBA or any relevant post-graduate degree
  • Membership of relevant Professional bodies such as Nigerian Institute of Management
  • A minimum of 15 years work experience with at least 10 years at managerial level in a large Company.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgement; high level of business acumen including the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; and problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.
