Position Summary

Futures Group is recruiting for an experienced Consultant-Senior Demographer to work on a new program to support the Nigerian Ministry of Health (MOH) for the successful launch and implementation of the costed implementation plan for family planning. The Consultant-Senior Demographer will work with the Futures Group analytics team to develop and finalize the state-level analytics and benchmarks to implement the National Family Planning Blueprint. This position is based in Abuja, Nigeria and may require travel to Lagos.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and finalize state-level analytics with support of Futures Group analytics team
  • Revise and suggest revisions to state-level analytics
  • Organize and lead a meeting of 4 national demographers to discuss and agree on state-level analytics
  • Finalize state-level analytics and prepare relevant materials for a larger meeting for expert demographers and academics to agree on analytics to be proposed to FMoH
  • Organize and lead a final meeting of expert demographers and academics with the FMoH to agree on national government-owned analytics
  • Provide general technical and strategic guidance
  • Other related technical tasks as required
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred in Demography, Population, Sociology, Public Health, etc.)
  • Deep working knowledge of the FMoH and demographic data and its use in Nigeria
  • 10+ years of experience in public health programs, policy, advocacy or governance
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytic, financial, and evaluative skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to respond and adapt quickly to changing requirements and competing demands
  • Ability to take initiative, to anticipate potential problems and/or respond independently to situations
  • Ability to travel on a national basis (within Nigeria)
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required
Deliverables
  • Review report including suggested revisions to state-level analytics (first draft will be sent on October 15)- October 22
  • Internal meeting with national demographers- October 29
  • Finalization of state-level analytics- November 5
  • PowerPoint and related materials for dissemination at meeting- November 10
  • Larger meeting of FMoH, Population Council, and expert demographers and academics to agree on state-level analytics to be government-owned- November 12
