Position Summary
- S/he will provide oversight in the areas of training across lab services, systems strengthening, biosafety, bio-surveillance, biosecurity, sample management and overall continuous quality improvement.
- In partnership with the technical team and other collaborators, S/he will guide the development of a Laboratory fellowship program for capacity building for a critical mass human resources and will conduct post-training monitoring and impact of training.
- The post holder will lead the identification and of training needs and the development of laboratory capacity building plans.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead the development and management of laboratory training teams covering biosafety/biosecurity, safe sample handling/transport, basic surveillance laboratory sampling and diagnostics, viral identification and isolation, and characterization of viral isolates/new pathogens.
- Participate with other consortium partners in the development and refinement of training curriculum in cutting-edge laboratory systems and services
- Responsible for the creation of training calendars and coordination to ensure execution of training needs assessments, training, and post-training follow-on support within agreed timelines.
- Lead the establishment of a training-of-trainers curriculum and establishment of Laboratory Fellowship Program.
- Guide the development of laboratory performance measures and milestones
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in MLS or Biomedical Science is required.
- Master’s or PhD is preferred.
Experience, Skills and Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Background in the execution of formal and informal laboratory training/strengthening;
- Experience in capacity building and mentoring
- Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems
- Ability to coordinate many complex systems and programs at the same time; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
