The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Sokoto has warned applicants for teaching appointments on the activities of employment racketeers in the state, saying some dubious persons were extorting money from job seekers.

The warning followed reports that fraudsters were swindling those seeking teaching appointments in the state after the recent approval by the state government for recruitment of teachers to address personnel shortage in schools.

Chairman of the Board, Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir, who spoke on the issue Wednesday, noted that some dubious characters at the local government education authorities were collecting money from applicants, and warned that anyone found doing so would be dealt with.

The SUBEB chairman said the board had not issued any statement on how the recruitment exercise would be conducted. According to him, the exercise will be based on examinations to be conducted simultaneously in the 23 local government areas of the state. He urged applicants to avoid becoming victims.
