Field Technician at SeedCo Nigeria (5 Openings)

SeedCo Nigeria Limited is a joint venture between Seed Co West Africa Limited (a subsidiary of Seed Co International Limited a public listed Company incorporated in Zimbabwe and quoted on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange) and Saro AgroSciences Limited a leading Nigeria Agro Input provider.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Field Technician

Locations: Zaria, Saminaka - Kaduna, Mokwa and Kontagora - Niger and Kano
Employment Type: Contract

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with research field selection, land preparation and farmers engagements.
• Assist with field layout, planting, and evaluation of maize, soybean, rice, wheat, sorghum, millet, and cowpea trials.
• Assist with layout of breeding nursery
• Assist with hand pollination on seed production field
• Coordinate all field operations and labour engagement for planting, thinning, weeding, fertilizer application, and harvesting of trials.
• Coordinate insect pest and weed control activities
• Data collection
• Supervision of casual labour
• Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• OND in General Agriculture preferably Crop Production, Plant Science, Agronomy, Crop Protection or any other related discipline
• At least two (2) years relevant experience performing similar role
• Supervision, management, and leadership attributes
• Ability to speak the local dialect of the job location will be an added advantage.
• Age Requirement: 25 - 32 years.

• Good networking
• Have fundamental knowledge of agronomy, plant propagation, and field trial management
• Have experience in managing field research activities with field crops such as cowpea, maize, rice, wheat, sorghum, millet, soybean, and vegetables.
• Have good field management skills, data collection skills, and experience in trial design.
• Position requires working on the field for long hours including weekends
• Good organizational skills with excellent communication (verbal and written) capabilities.
• Ability to work in the field and stay in the rural areas of the job location
• Ability to speak local dialect.
