WAAW (Working to Advance STEM Education for African women) foundation is a US-based non-profit organization whose mission is to increase the pipeline of African women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Computer science (CS) disciplines.

Main functions:

WAAW Foundation is recruiting The Operations and Education Director who will oversee WAAW Foundation’s programs and operational training and camp programs with a primary task to ensure that the program curriculum delivered is effective and meets projected revenue targets. Functions include providing curricular training, volunteer recruitment, operational and process planning and design, project planning and implementation.

Job Title: Operations & Education Director - WAAW Foundation

Location: Lagos
Supervisor: This position reports to the CEO or other designated supervisor.

Duties:
  • Create, Implement and organize training programs in Computer science, programming and STEM disciplines for secondary girls Develop and implement curriculum consistent with WAAWs vision & goals.
  • Work with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating after school programs and STEM camps.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all year round WAAW training programs, define and meet goals and objectives for educational programs.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the curricular and instructional program.
  • Interpret the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the board, the administration, the staff, and the general public.
  • Keep informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in programming and STEM disciplines for secondary girls STEM education as well as education policies.
  • Monitor science kits, computing tools, and supplementary materials selection used in educational programs and schools.
  • Coordinate, recruit and manage and train co-trainers and volunteers for STEM in-service curriculum and pedagogy skills.
  • Develop relationships with school districts, principals, teachers in order to offer training programs for the enhancement of STEM instruction.
  • Lead the establishment of WAAWs paid training programs.
  • Represent the Program Director, Executive Director or CEO when so designated.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the CEO or Executive Director.
  • Develop and implement processes and systems for measurement and evaluation of programs including creating and modifying reports, surveys, etc.
  • Assist effort in creating and maintaining Content Resource Website for local STEM content
  • Prioritize and manage projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
Employment Requirements:
  • Full time, work from home position – reliable internet and phone connection a must.
  • Requires initiative, go getter attitude and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Required to represent WAAW Foundation in a professional manner.
  • Proficient spoken and written English, Punctual, meticulous, detail oriented and reliable
  • Courteous manners with donors, students, teachers, clients, customers, staff and the public.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups, volunteers and major projects,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and Collaborative work style and commitment to getting the job done
  • High comfort level working with various computer software, STEM, programming languages, computing and training in a diverse environment.
  • Work effectively with partner and community organizations.
  • Some travel required.
  • Must enjoy working with girls and youth and support the mission of WAAW Foundation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in STEM related field from an accredited college/university in Africa.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in curriculum development and training.
  • Desire to continue career improvement in STEM training, teaching skills and leadership development.
