News: LASTVEB Unveils Technical Students for Dangote Employment scheme

Dangote - No fewer than fifteen technical students in Lagos State have benefited from the Dangote Academy Scheme in the first phase of employment.

The fifteen students were offered admission to undertake 18 months junior technical training scheme at Dangote Academy, Osogbo. The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB, Engr. Olawumi Gasper disclosed this at Ikeja when the beneficiaries were unveiled to the public.

He said 524 sat for the examination, 84 students who qualified were shortlisted for the oral interview and 15 of the beneficiaries were selected for the first phase of employment.

According to Gasper the selection process cuts across the five technical colleges in Lagos State.

Meanwhile, Mr Afonja Gafar, one of the 15 beneficiaries was reported to have died three weeks ago after a brief illness. His colleagues who made the disclosure it at the public presentation lamented the demise of Afonja adding that he will be greatly missed by all.

However, the selected trainees are expected to report to the Dangote Academy, Oshogbo, between Saturday and Sunday for registration as the inauguration and induction programme for the new trainees shall commence on Monday 28, 2014.

Gasper who urged the beneficiaries to see the training as an opportunity, said the training automatically earns them employment in Dangote company.

Paul David Oluwatobi who studied Welding and Fabrication at Government Technical College," Ikorodu spoke on behalf of himself and other beneficiaries said: "We are happy for this opportunity, we pledge to be law abiding and good ambassadors of LASTVEB."
