The Daily Local Company Limited, publishers of Nigeria’s newest online community newspaper, is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Online Newspaper Editor

Location: Lagos Mainland, Lagos

Job Summary

• Leading a team of talented reporters and working closely with our other editors, photo editors, and social media managers to make sure that our content is seen by as many people as possible.
• You will be comfortable leading from the front and never settle for anything less than the best. In Daily Local we are all about delivering the details for our readers - and we will need you to be obsessed with this too.
• You’ll need a good knowledge of social media and search, have proven experience of growing audiences and strong digital publishing skills.
• We want someone who has management experience and is passionate about developing their staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the newsrooms in producing content which engages readers and reaches as many people as possible.
• Publish content online, and ensure that DailyLocal‘s digital publishing standards are met at all times.
• Ensure that high journalistic standards are met at all times, and every piece of content is legally sound.
• Manage home pages and audience engagement channels (social media, newsletters etc) as and when required.
• Mentor and develop reporters and other direct reports
• Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.
• Fostering a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions.
• Developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work.
• Rewarding and recognising great performance, celebrating people’s achievements and successes.
• Ensuring the continued development of team members, supporting them to reach their full potential.
• Partnering with our HR team to attract, develop and maintain the best talent to help the business achieve its goals, now and in the future.
• Including monitoring engagement and using employee feedback to continually improve.
• Acting as a role model and taking a lead on change initiatives to support the group’s strategy and our employees.

Skills and Qualifications
Interested candidates should possess relevant skills and qualifications, which include:

• A minimum educational attainment of an HND / B.Sc with at least 5 years work experience.
• An excellent command of the English language
• Excellent English language writing skills
• An ability to work unsupervised
• Highly IT literate
• A full command of the tools required to be a successful journalist
• You will be an experienced editor or content editor who is able to demonstrate that you will lead to the next level
• You’ll have a passion for digital storytelling in local journalism, strong digital publishing and social media skills
• Strong people management skills.
