APIN has built a strong partnership with the Nigerian Government, which is memorialized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Planning Commission. APIN is a leading Nigerian organization in the provision of prevention, care and treatment services to patients with HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis; Malaria; Reproductive Health; Family Planning; Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, and other non-communicable diseases of public health significance.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Virtual Support Team Advisor

About You

  • We are looking for an advisor with experience working in HIV/sexual health service provision with excellent IT skills who is passionate about improving the sexual health and reducing HIV in the population in Nigeria. 

Clinical Duties, with support from the Virtual Support Team Lead

  • Develop an understanding of service user needs and offer information, advice, support and signposting through remote communications such as the telephone, text messaging and WhatsApp.
  • Follow agreed protocols and standard operating procedures which detail how the virtual support team interacts with service users.
  • Draw on your knowledge of sexual health and HIV including health risks and benefits, and prevention.
  • Identify and flag users at risk who need to be assessed by the virtual support team lead
  • To attend and participate in clinical training and governance meetings
  • Provide non-directive, non-judgmental counselling on issues related to sexual health and HIV.

Essential Education / Qualifications / Training

  • Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Health Sciences or health related diploma. 
  • At least 2 years, experience of working in HIV/sexual health care or sexual health education and outreach

Essential Knowledge / Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of HIV and sexually transmitted infections, including prevention interventions such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
  • Excellent IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills face-to-face, on the telephone and via WhatsApp/SMS

Experience:

  • Experience of counselling about the sexual health infections including HIV, risk and prevention

  • Excellent listening skills
  • Willingness to support service users with sexual health problems, by telephone/SMS/WhatApp when it is clinically safe to do so.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Positive approach to service development, innovation and change
  • Willingness to participate in research and evaluation by explaining evaluation processes to users, answering questions on this and supporting their participation
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and contribute to the development of a new and evolving service
  • IT literate/competent and willing to learn how to use new systems
  • Trustworthy, discreet and highly conscious of the importance of maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of personal information
  • Acute awareness of information security issues and willing to comply with security requirements
  • A proven ability to work on your own, manage your time effectively, prioritising your own workload and client caseload under clinical supervision.
