Job Description
  • The purpose of the role is to supervise the project controls, contract and commercial management functions of the company post contract award and ensure that risks are properly managed on all projects.
  • The incumbent will also supervise the review of corporate contracts and other business agreements, highlighting potential risks and ensuring that the terms are adhered. Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Proposals and other professionals within the company to assure contract terms conform to industry practices.
Key Aims and Objectives
  • To manage the post contract award project controls, contract and commercial management functions of the company and supervise input to the commercial/contracts development and review of proposal analysis, examining contract terms and recommending the most profitable options to the senior management team.
Functional Competencies

Technical Expertise:
  • Has advanced knowledge of various model forms of fabrication and construction and other contracts, and a working knowledge of when and how they are used.
  • Has expertise in project controls and contract management.
  • Has a solid knowledge of and experience in contract risk management.
  • Able to lead a team to produce and deliver complex contract strategies and multiple contracting plans.
  • Manages a team in the administration and control of multiple complex and high value contracts.
  • Understands basic principles of Contract Law and is knowledgeable in different forms of dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of the challenges and risks associated with an effective project execution.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
Commercial Awareness:
  • Manage interfaces with the commercial position imposed by Commercial Director.
  • Ensure awareness of the commercial aspects of contracts among the project team.
  • Ensure awareness of terms and conditions of contract by relevant parties and lead a team in the evaluation of complex contractor exceptions to resolution, using expert advice when appropriate.
  • Oversees appropriate level of detailed analysis and provide recommendations relating to multiple complex contract changes, deviations and claims.
  • Manages technical and commercial risks, ensuring appropriate measures are in place for claims avoidance and dispute resolution proceedings where appropriate.
  • Provide commercial awareness and negotiation training to staff employed in the administration of construction contracts.
Prime Responsibilities and Duties
  • Supervise the post contract award project controls, contract and commercial management functions
  • To ensure the provisions of a complete project control service to all projects in accordance with contract execution procedures and other department and company procedures and work practices.
  • Ensure that the risk register generated during the preparation of proposals is carried forward to the project execution phase, and that a risk management plan in implemented and followed on every project.
  • Ensure that cost and schedule baselines are put in place at an early stage of each project and communicated to the respective project teams.
  • Ensure that all control mechanisms are established to monitor performance and analyse trends and prepare forecasts for review with project management.
  • Ensure that effective Change Control mechanisms are established and that agreed changes are reflected in budgets and schedules.
  • Monitor the timely reporting, preparation, submission and finalization of changes and claims.
  • Review overall project status with the Project Controls Managers and Project Management and recommend corrective action if necessary.
  • Receive and process information, make decisions, solve problems and discuss issues with senior management when performing tasks;
  • Supervise the preparation of contract and commercial documents, reviewing of contractual drafts and final editions;
  • To organize complex contractual and commercial documentation, write and edit contracts;
  • Involved in frequent interactions across the organization and making good use of organization skills;
  • To identify, analyse and develop responses to contractual and commercial risks;
  • Provides advice on commercial and contractual claims;
  • Determine full 'cause and effect' of reasons for delay and additional costs on projects and determine how this impacts project cash flow, profitability, and contractor performance.
  • Conducts regular audits of the contract management and project controls functions on projects.
  • Review workload requirements and forecasts to ensure effective resource planning.
  • Assist in the drafting of procedures, work practices, job descriptions and management instructions in order to effect agreed procedural developments.
Other duties:
  • To have an understanding of the implications of health and safety regulations.

  • Monitors the preparation of commercial, schedule and costing reviews by the Project Control Teams.

Requirements
  • Four year relevant university degree.
  • At least 15 years' experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Overseas and/or Africa work experience
  • Computer Literate - MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word,
  • Experience of working in multicultural environments
  • Effectively work under pressure in a team-oriented environment;
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and produce quality complex work;
  • Must have good communication skills, deductive reasoning ability and information ordering aptitude when performing duties
