Job Description

West, East and Southern Africa is the fastest growing cluster in Africa. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Category Manager for Computing in the Computing Category team of Africa to join us on our challenges and opportunities.
Focus of this position is on products and solutions for the Commercial and Enterprise customer segments, and more precisely on Desktops and Workstation products.
  • As a Category Manager you will be responsible for managing the product lifecycle, you understand product messaging, positioning and competitiveness.
  • You create and drive plans on cluster level to meet and exceed revenue, margin and market share targets. You translate Africa & EMEA key initiatives into local targets and drive the planning and execution of those.
  • In this role you will be responsible for unit & revenue forecasting as well as discount management.
  • You are the subject matter expert on the respective products and ensure proper training for internal & external audiences. Supporting our Generalist Sales during customer/partner visits and presentations at internal and external events is part of your responsibility.
Key Duties
  • Product line and quota responsibility
  • Manage products lifecycle, from introduction to end-of-life (including roll overs)
  • Build and drive plans to reach revenue quota, margin and market share targets
  • Unit and revenue forecast including discount management
  • Representing HP Computing internally and externally in Commercial and Enterprise route-to-market
  • Establish relationships and represents team with sales force, country category, EMEA category and partners at senior level.
  • Maximize sell out in all RTM’s
  • Validate central NR forecast to ensure availability vs. sell-out plan, include big deals for Retail, Mid-Market and Enterprise
  • Manage local pricing and promotional planning per defined process & guidelines
  • Become product and solution expert
  • Engage with category colleagues to drive overall computing ecosystem
  • Understand market trends, competitive ad-vantages that impact product sales up-sell)
  • Create enthusiasm and excitement around products, become a HP Brand champion
  • Educates local channel partners and HP’s sales-force on products and key positioning
  • Get new products on end-users short-list quickly; work with Channel and End-User sales teams to maximize ramp-up
  • Drive demand gen. with Marketing, manage the 4P marketing mix & optimize push/pull
  • Stay within given budgets (discount)
Education and Experience Required
  • University degree in Marketing or Finance
  • Typically 7+ years of professional experience with a combination of Marketing, Product Management, Sales, Business Planning experience preferred
  • Consumer and/or Commercial Partner management expertise / End User Acct management as an alternative
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • IT / Computing industry knowledge in West, East and Southern Africa region.
  • Business planning skills, multidimensional.
  • Financial planning and modelling skills, comfortable to manage high complexity business planning and reporting
  • Ability to drive business growth in a complex multi country territory
  • Strong communication skills at senior management internally and externally
  • Knowledge of promotional marketing processes and practices.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to frame the product value proposition to customers/partners
  • Leadership skills and cross functional expertise (sales, supply chain, marketing)
  • Strong ability to perform within a virtual international team
  • Strong team spirit and support to peers
