  • Banyan Global is the prime recipient of the Nigeria Health Workforce Management (HWM) Activity in Nigeria. The HWM Activity is a five-year task order to support the establishment of a cost-effective, well-trained, and motivated health workforce, particularly in targeted rural and remote areas of Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kebbi, and Sokoto States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
  • By its conclusion, HWM is expected to increase the production of new health workers competent to respond to current and future population health needs in these locations by 10,000; improve the distribution and skill mix of front-line workers to meet specific local demands; and strengthen the capacity of pre-service training institutions to adopt and apply innovative education approaches.
  • Targeted interventions will contribute to:
    • Improved management of maternal, child, and newborn health conditions and
    • Increased responsiveness to community health needs.
  • USAID will support the Government of Nigeria’s (GON’s) commitment to plan, recruit, train, manage, and retain its primary health care (PHC) workforce.
  • This activity will contribute to the achievement of USAID/Nigeria’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) Development Objective 2 “a healthier, more educated population in targeted states” and Intermediate Result (IR) 2.1 “Utilization of quality health services in targeted areas and population groups increased.”
  • The Grantee Technical Capacity Building - Pre-Service Training Institutions consultant will be based in Abuja and operate from the HWM Office.
  • The consultant will report to the HWM HRH Training Lead and will provide technical support to two HWM grantees that implementing grants to strengthen the pre-service training learning environment and in-service training program.
  • The consultant will provide technical assistance to the grantees to work with PSHTIs, review and provide quality assurance support to HWM on the grantee reports and deliverables.

Deliverables / Activities
The consultant will submit the following deliverables as and when due:

  • Reviewed and edited versions of milestone deliverable reports of each grantee
  • Consultancy report that includes a summary of technical assistance provided to the grantees and recommendations for the scope of work of follow-on grants

Approach

  • The consultant is expected to provide the technical support by working with the relevant HWM and grantee staff to produce high-quality technical deliverables.
  • The consultant will ensure that all milestone deliverables are reviewed and revised to meet HWM quality standards. 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in the Medical professions (Medicine, Nursing, or Midwifery) with a Master’s Degree preferable.
  • Previous or current experience working to strengthen pre-service training institutions and in-service training programs for nurses, midwives, and community health workers.
  • Demonstrable experience producing high-quality reports, particularly for USAID-funded programs.

Timing and Level of Effort:

  • The expected period of performance for this assignment is 40 days between June and September 31, 2022.
