Job Overview and Duties
- Identifying patients and their personal information by reviewing their identity documents.
- Assessing patient needs, reviewing patient history, and determining the reason(s) for drawing blood.
- Selecting gauge needles and preparing veins or fingers for blood drawing.
- Extracting blood from patients through venipuncture or finger-sticks.
- Analyzing blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary.
- Sample collection and analyzing
- Maintain Blood bank and chemical inventories
- Maintain Laboratory equipment. Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment
- Comply with all laboratory policies and HEFFEMA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control
- Label, sort and check specimens and organize all information into the system
- Maintenance of accurate records and reporting of data
- Collection and Interpretation of Data
- Preparing specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients.
- Supplying diagnostic notes to physicians, other healthcare professionals, and hospitals.
- Keeping and maintaining records of patient names, volume of blood drawn, and diagnostic findings.
- Cleaning, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment used in the drawing and testing of blood specimens.
- Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.
- Perform all other laboratory duties as assigned.
Requirements
- MLA / MLS / MLT qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 3 years of work experience as a lab technician.
- Current Practicing license with MLSCN
- Exceptional Knowledge of Microsoft office suits
- Experience in Health sector as a Phlebotomist
- Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.
