Job Title: QA / QC Manager

Location: Apapa, Lagos

Job Description

  • Under the direction of the Plant Manager, QA/QC Manager is responsible for ensuring that processes are established, fully implemented, and maintained in an organized and efficient manner.
  • The QA/QC Manager shall also act as the Management Representative for the company’s regulations and be responsible for reviewing and reporting on the performance of the QA/QC department.
  • The QA/QC Manager will ensure Laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) encompasses a range of activities that enable laboratories to achieve and maintain high levels of accuracy and proficiency despite changes in test methods and the volume of specimens tested.
  • The QA/QC Manager will ensure Laboratory Standardization is achieved when test results have the same analytical accuracy and precision across measurement systems, laboratories, and over time.
  • The job holder will also be responsible for assisting with the ongoing and day-to-day provision of QA/QC advice, on all company Projects.

Responsibilities

  • Advancing quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.
  • Planning duties within the QA/QC staff and related work schedules;
  • Establishing service standards for end users (i.e., internal department or external customer).
  • Understanding customer expectations of and needs from a product.
  • Developing quality control processes.
  • Designing product specifications.
  • Ensuring products are designed with adherence to legal and safety standards.
  • Supervising staff and monitoring production standards.
  • Examining the quality of raw materials that are used in production.
  • Monitoring and evaluating internal production processes.
  • Evaluating the final output of products to determine their quality.
  • Rejecting products that fail quality standards.
  • Engaging with customers and gathering product feedback.
  • Producing statistical reports on quality standards.
  • Reporting to upper management on quality standard issues.
  • Evaluating product recalls.
  • Reference System consisting of reference methods and reference materials with target values assigned by the reference methods,
  • Traceability procedure in which participants use the reference materials created in the previous step to calibrate their tests or to verify the analytical accuracy and precision of their testing system,
  • Verification procedure in which the analytical accuracy and precision of the test calibrated in the previous step is being assessed under routine testing conditions
  • Establishes standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each step of the laboratory testing process, ranging from specimen handling to instrument performance validation;
  • Defines administrative requirements, such as mandatory recordkeeping, data evaluation, and internal audits to monitor adherence to SOPs;
  • Specifies corrective actions, documentation, and the persons responsible for carrying out corrective actions when problems are identified; and
  • Sustains high-quality employee performance.
  • Perform regular audits and assessments, and monitor QA/QC performance to identify areas of improvement, and ensure appropriate corrective or preventive actions are taken including follow-up reviews.
  • Lead any necessary accident/incident investigation and reporting; ensure accurate root cause analysis.
  • Coordinate preparation for scheduled external audits to ensure smooth execution.
  • Conduct quality reviews for investigations from the different functions before forwarding to management
  • Report progress on leading and lagging metrics as required for corporate reporting and reviews.

Preferred Background and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field. A postgraduate degree would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years petroleum testing laboratory experience using standard testing procedures and specifications
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques; test and sampling procedures; handling and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of various petroleum products and their characteristics; ability to interpret results of petroleum analysis; lubricant formulation and additive technology
