Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Objectives and Primary Responsibilities

  • To ensure optimal resource deployment and returns, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide leadership for the management of the company’s financial and investment operations covering financial systems, risk management, and other control functions.
  • The CFO will also coordinate the efficient and effective operations of related departments including those of Financial Control, Management Reporting, Credit Control, Treasury, Internal Control & Risk Management, and Tax Management. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Financial Control & Governance:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a finance strategy that is properly aligned and supports the company’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Develop and maintain all necessary systems, policies, and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within the company
  • Ensure effective utilization of the financial resources of the organization including achieving cost efficiency in line with the company’s business objectives
  • Develop and manage the framework for the delegation of authority over financial resources in line with the Board approved Manual of Authority
  • Establish credit policies for customers to achieve favorable (for the Company) payment terms

Risk Management and controls:

  • Establish and formalize an organization-wide risk management framework and risk review process
  • Identify risks and financial implications of projects/ initiatives, and advise the CEO accordingly
  • Undertake an annual evaluation of internal controls and business risk assessment for the Board and Audit Committee and make improvement recommendations as required
  • Provide the Audit Committee with assurance on the organization’s internal controls and compliance as the business expands

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Ensure analysis and articulation of the organization’s financial performance in line with relevant financial reporting standards including IFRS.
  • Leverage the company business model for generating value and translate the operational metrics into key performance indicators to ensure a strategic focus on the value drivers of the business
  • Coordinate timely preparation of financial statements and ensure the statements reflect the company’s financial position and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Manage the interface between the company and external auditors for good outcomes.

Budgeting & Planning:

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and monitoring of yearly budgets for the organization and drive the financial planning process to support the organisation's growth and expansion plans
  • Assess and fully understand the financial requirements and tax implications of these plans and communicate these clearly to the CEO

Capital & Cash Management:

  • Ensure the proactive management and monitoring of the organization's cash flows, optimal cash management, and best practice treasury management
  • Ensure optimal capital expenditure and ensure the organization has sufficient liquidity to meet its short, medium, and long-term requirements as well as meeting its banking obligations
  • Articulate, develop, and implement procedures and controls to ensure that the Company’s funding requirements are proactively anticipated and met at a reasonable cost
  • Lead the Company’s debt and equity-raising activities where required
  • Recommend and implement hedging options to manage foreign exchange and commodity risks
  • Oversee tax planning to optimize the organization’s tax position and ensure full tax compliance
  • Design and implement mechanisms to safeguard the organization’s liquid and fixed assets
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with related banks and other financial institutions
  • Review and authorize key expenditures/ transactions of the departments in line with the company’s approved budget and manual of authority
  • Provide periodic reports on the activities and performance of the finance function
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the CEO

Education / Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (Second Class Lower) or its equivalent in a numeric discipline (preferably Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics).
  • Mandatory professional accounting certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA)

Work Experience, Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience in a finance-related function with at least five (5) years in a senior management position
  • Very good understanding of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations, and legislation relating to the consumer electronics or fast-moving consumer goods industries
  • Excellent understanding of macro-economic indices and their impact on business
  • Good understanding of foreign exchange operations and regulations
  • Experience in corporate finance, strategic planning and analysis, and internal controls
  • Advanced finance and accounting knowledge, including experience with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to provide sound business judgment, strategic thinking, and broad financial and business perspective across the organization
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to manage multinational and cross-cultural teams effectively.
