The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the Safety Program Coordinator position in the Facility Maintenance Section (FAC) in Lagos:

Job Title: Safety Program Coordinator

Ref: FSN-08/FP-06
Location: Lagos

Basic function of the position
  • Incumbent serves as a Safety Program Coordinator with responsibility for assisting the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO) in carrying out the day-to-day functions of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Fire Protection Division (FIR) programs at post as required by 6 FAM 600 and 6 FAM 780; assures that all government-owned and leased property in country meets the requirements of 6 FAM 617 and 6 FAM 780, as well as other related Departmental requirements which may exist. Incumbent reports directly to the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO).
Qualifications Required
Note:

  • University degree or vocational training in facility management or environment safety fields such as construction or architecture is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the maintenance or construction field performing repair work or in the field of occupational safety is required.
  • Three (3) additional years of work experience as a construction supervisor or quality control assurance inspector with experience managing people and resources is required.
  • Level IV (good working knowledge) Speaking /Reading/Writing in English is required.
  • Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SHEM and OSHA guidelines and required practices and procedures; general specialist knowledge of environmental safety standards.
  • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in order to draft reports and conduct training are required.
Selection Process
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
Remuneration
Salary: Or - Ordinary Resident
– N5,392,865.00 p.a. (Starting basic salary) Position Grade: FSN-08
In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.
Nor - Not Ordinarily Resident - AEFM - US$45,038 EFM/MOH - US$38,779 (Starting Salary) p.a. Position Grade: FP-06
