Job Title: Adolescent Girls Consultant

Location:
Abuja, Nigeria with possible travel
Jointly: Maintain links and close collaboration between Mercy Corps & Girls Hub.

Reports Directly to:
  • Mercy Corps' Director of Gender Programs on Mercy Corps assignment and to the Girl Hub Country Director on Girl's Hub assignment.
  • Overall report is to Mercy Corps' Director of Gender Programs and the incumbent holds a Mercy Corps contract.
Works Directly with:
  • Girl Hub Nigeria
  • Mercy Corps Country team: Program Directors and Managers, finance and operations team members.
General Position Summary
  • The Consultant will be seconded into the Girl Hub in Nigeria and Mercy Corps Nigeria.
  • S/he will provide technical advice and support to the Girl Hub and Mercy Corps teams in Nigeria.
  • The Coordinator will support the work of sector Program Managers including the planning, implementation, and communication of ongoing programs that strengthened the education and economic empowerment of girls.
Essential Job Functions
  • Girls Hub (estimated 30%)
  • Conduct Mapping of development partners to identify organisations that GHN can influence their work to benefit girls.
  • Mercy Corps (estimated 70%)
  • Support the development and implementation of the knowledge management and communication strategy of Mercy Corps Nigeria adolescent girls program.
  • Provide Technical assistance in the design and pre-test of BCC materials for adolescent girls program.
  • Mentor and develop the technical project management capacity of staff in line with Mercy Corps Program Management Standards.
  • Identify, design and deliver technical support to SHARE project in establishing a safe space program.
  • Support the facilitation of a platform where adolescent girl subject matter expertise may influence systems and policy (Government of Nigeria, the World Bank, UN, private sector, and other key partners, focusing on the Central Bank of Nigeria Financial Inclusion Framework)
Knowledge and Experience
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and experience of working in a multi-cultural team.
  • Experience in project management and coordination; including implementation and monitoring, donor reporting, partner relationships, communication and networking.
  • A Degree, preferably graduate level, in Social Sciences is required;
  • At least 7 years work experience in designing gender programs with a strong BCC background
  • Proven knowledge of international financial inclusion best practices
  • Fluency in English required, including report development, writing and editing. Strong desire for applicants with fluency in Hausa.
  • Demonstrated experience in training, capacity building of partners and team members.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members required
  • Highly developed computers skills with strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel are mandatory.
  • Candidate must be willing to travel and work throughout Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly to achieve stated results and objectives.
  • Strong organizational development and team management experience.
  • Experience in project management and coordination; including implementation and monitoring, donor reporting, partner relationships, communication and networking.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and experience of working in a multi-cultural team.
