Mercy Corps has been working in Nigeria since 2012. With a team of over 50 people, our country program currently focuses on conflict mitigation, markets and economic development, girls' education and financial inclusion.

Under the USAID funded SUPPORT TO VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS FOR ACCELERATED REVENUE EARNINGS (SHARE) Program, led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Mercy Corps will help households grow their incomes by building skills and employment readiness to more effectively participate in market opportunities.

SHARE will help rural households grow their wealth by increasing their participation in financial services leveraging on mobile technology. It is therefore seeking a consultant to support it in establishing a background information on access to financial services and mobile penetration and usage in target communities in Northern Nigeria. Specifically, the consultant is required to review results from analyzed survey data and to write a comprehensive report for peer review and reference.

Activities
  • Review result from survey data analysis.

Methodology
  • Two surveys were conducted in rural target communities in Northern Nigeria to understand the “Barriers to the use of financial services by rural households” and the second one to understand the “Extent of mobile penetration and usage in rural communities.
  • The consultant will review the results of data analysis from the two surveys and write comprehensive reports in alignment with the objectives of SHARE Project.
Consultant Deliverables
The consultant will deliver the following set of deliverables to Mercy Corps:
  • One report for the survey to understand “barriers to the use of financial services by rural households”.
  • One report for the survey to understand the “extent of mobile penetration and usage among rural households”
  • Presentation of key findings to SHARE Project Team
Organizational Support
  • The consultant will be managed by the SHARE Project Income Generation Team Lead.
Timeframe/Schedule
Mercy Corps anticipates that this assignment will require 18 days, based on a 5 day work week, subject to discussion and agreement with the consultant. The work-plan is roughly outlined below:
