Job Description
  • UNICEF Nigeria seeks the services of an experienced Nutrition Officer (Control of Micronutrient Deficiency-MNDC) to support in planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of micronutrient deficiency control programmes in Nigeria.
  • Micronutrient deficiencies remain an enduring problem in Nigeria. The prevalence of Vitamin A Deficiency is 30%, which is six times higher than the threshold for public health significance of 5%.
  • Use of adequately iodised salt is less than 60% in the North West, Little has been done to address iron-deficiency anaemia in children and women.
  • Over 70% children suffer from anaemia and Nigeria has the highest burden in the world. Almost 60% pregnant women are anaemic during pregnancy and this is one of the key contributing factors for the high level of maternal mortality.
Qualifications or specialized knowledge/experience required
  • University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health and Nutrition Health Sciences, International Health and Nutrition Public Health and Nutrition Policy and Management, Family and community Health and Nutritional Epidemiology, Health and Nutrition Education, Health and Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health Preparedness, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s).
  • Training in gender and in nutrition programmes that promote gender equality and aset. Two years of relevant professional work experience. Experience of micronutrient programming, particularly Micronutrient Powder Supplementation, carrying out community based research activities background and familiarity with Emergency, monitoring gender inequalities and in programming interventions that reduce the disparities an asset.
  • Fluency in English and local working language of the duty station
