The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the Premier Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria. It was incorporated in 1950 as a non-profit making organization, Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act of 1948. The primary objective of the Chamber is to promote, support or oppose legislative or other measures affecting trade, industry, commerce and agriculture as well as representing the opinion of the business community on the above matters in particular, and the economy as a whole.

Job Summary

  • We are seeking for a competent, versatile and qualified Director / Assistant Director of Trade Promotion for efficient and effective management of the Trade Promotion activities, Trade Fair and specialized exhibitions of the Chamber.

Overview of the Role

  • To supervise and co-ordinate the mandate of the Trade Promotion Department with a view to achieving the objectives and targets set by the Chamber. The prospective applicant will be responsible for the strategic plans and management of Trade Fair, specialized exhibitions, major projects, Budget management, and implementing change with a view to making significant improvement and add value to the existing process.

Job Description

  • Develop and execute an annual business plan for the realization of the key objectives of the Department.
  • Ensures that all key personnel in the Department are assigned responsibilities derived from the business plan for optimal performance
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the employees in the Department.
  • Oversee and ensure that all logistics and administrative arrangements are in place for the meetings of the Trade promotion board. Table all matters requiring deliberations/decisions at these meetings; take necessary follow-up action on based reached.
  • Ensure prompt publication of prospectus and other relevant documents for the annual Lagos International Trade fair and the specialized trade fairs; ensure that these are made available at agreed locations throughout the country for prospective exhibitors.
  • Monitor the online portal for space booking,payments, content quality and all issues pertaining to online booking to ensure seamless registration process.
  • Ensures that all key personnel in the Departmental are assigned responsibilities derived from the business plan for optimal performance
  • Facilitate the development of project mission, goals, tasks and assist in conflict resolution within and between projects or functional areas, initiate methods to monitor projects and provide adequate supervision and correct any identified deviation from the objectives and goals where necessary.
  • Effective coordination of the special exhibition and project team, monitor performance, actively involved in hiring and disengagement of temporary staff meant for a specific project.
  • Review the services rendered by the Vendor, obtain information about future Vendor development in the functional area and influence the development in ways best for the company.
  • Manage the development of budget plan, implementation, monitor periodically the performance of budget and resources allocated effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Management Science, Management or Humanities or its equivalent.
  • Any of the following professional qualifications is required: CIM, PMP, NIMN, PgMP by PMI or Prince 2. Relevant Master’s degree such as MBA, M.Sc., MA will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 15 years cognate experience with at least 6 years in managing large projects or specialized exhibitions in a reputable organization.Minimum of 13 years with excellent performance may be considered for an Assistant Director.
  • In-depth Knowledge of Trade Promotion core competencies such as marketing, event management, project management such as specialized exhibitions will be required.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, change and risk management.
  • Proficient in ERP and other relevant Trade promotion software.
