Job Title: Advisor
Location: Lagos State
Job Purpose
- To conduct research on governance and policy and how it relates to youth development in Nigeria.
- To develop and assist in implementing VSO Nigeria programs that will promote and enhance youth engagement in governance.
- To work with VSO Nigeria in striving to improve youth related policies in Nigeria.
Responsibilities
- Review current youth oriented policies and programs in Nigeria and develop models of potential collaboration for VSO Nigeria
- Identify, pursue and build partnerships with organizations and institutions that can help enhance the engagement of youth in governance
- Work with VSO Nigeria to assist in the development of effective youth policies in Nigeria; this may include working with government and civil society in policy analysis and advocacy
- Design and develop youth programs that will build capacity in governance, leadership and civic education to be implemented by VSO Nigeria and implementing partners
- Assist in the implementation of VSO Nigeria programs that promote youth participation in governance
- Assist in the management of volunteers who are implementing VSO Nigeria programs and projects around youth governance
- Act as a liaison between VSO Nigeria and implementing partners
- Attend and actively participate in VSO Nigeria learning events
Key Performance Indicator
- Working to develop and assist in implementing VSO Nigeria programs that will promote and enhance youth engagement in governance leading to improved youth related policies in Nigeria as indicated by:
- Reviewed youth oriented policies and programmes in Nigeria
- Models of potential collaboration for VSON developed
- Number of partnerships identified and built with organisations that can help enhance the engagement of youths in governance
- Effective youth policies developed in conjunction with government and civil society organisations
- Youth programmes to build capacity in governance, leadership and civic education designed and developed
- Youth governance programmes Volunteers and partners managed in implementing VSON projects around youth governance

Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Relevant University Degree with knowledge of governance issue, policy analysis and project management
- Previous experience of work on governance issues and policy analysis
- Good, clear communication skills; Good facilitation skills
- Resourcefulness and ability to solve problems
- Ability to adapt knowledge and experience to Nigeria
- Ability to support others to adapt ideas to their own context
Desirable
- Willingness to work in a difficult environment where basic amenities (electricity, internet etc) is a challenge
- Experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Microsoft Project
- Good report writing skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain good working relationship
