Job Description

  • This position requires a firm understanding and application of  financial principles to the preparation and analysis of consolidated departmental budgets and financial statements, prepares management reports, performs and coordinates the performance of internal control reviews and some accounting functions. 

Responsibilities

  • Initiate general ledger file maintenance so that financial statement presentations will be accurate and meaningful. Ensure correct coding to the general ledger.
  • Liaise with all internal revenue authority for tax audit purposes and ensure compliance to all statutory obligations.
  • Prepare management reports. Identify trends and potential areas of concern. Investigate alternatives. Create reports, charts, and graphs illustrating findings. Recommend and initiate basic adjustments, as needed.
  • Prepare other special studies and reports for departments and organizations as required.
  • Analyze budget requests and explain any budgetary changes resulting from increased costs or changes in programs.
  • Draft correspondence to appropriate parties regarding any differences that require investigation or further action.
  • Assist with year- end closing and audit processes.
  • Perform and coordinate the performance of on and off-site internal control reviews.
  • Implement best practices in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or statutory regulations and the best use of available technology.
  • Assist local leaders with finance-related requests.
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or Business Management. A Master’s Degree will be preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of professional accounting experience (including the use of accounting systems) is required for this position.
  • ACCA, ICAN or CIMA designation (or partly qualified) is a plus.
  • Demonstrate well-grounded knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, principles and Church accounting systems.
  • Must operate a personal computer and have knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must be able to learn new software.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including fluency in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to train, influence, and motivate others.
  • Must be a member of the Church and worthy of a temple recommend.
