We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Mill Shift Supervisor

Location: Kano
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: General Manager

Summary of Position

  • The Mill Shift Supervisor oversees and is responsible for all operational activities on their assigned shift including planning, organizing, and directing shift operations to assure that plant reliability, safety, and environmental requirements are met. 
  • The Mill Shift Supervisor must be able to exercise considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply operational guidelines to specific situations as needed. 
  • In the absence of regular site management, assumes responsibility for immediate site operations, safety, environmental compliance, and security of the plant.

Detailed Listing of Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with other plant supervisors regarding day-to-day operating conditions.
  • Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate operations employees and contractors.
  • Must be able to prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports, maintain records and compose correspondence as required.
  • Assists the management of Mill Operations in reviewing procedures and investigating operating incidents and abnormalities.
  • Ensures work is performed by all employees & contractors in a safe and responsible manner through the enforcement of all safety requirements and procedures.
  • Must be able to evaluate and verify employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  • Capable of identifying employee development and training needs and ensure that training is obtained.
  • Capable of coaching and counselling employees on company personnel and safety policies.
  • Investigates accidents and injuries and prepare reports accordingly.
  • Must be able to communicate to immediate supervisor and/or managers as required in order to optimize resources for purposes of improving work planning.
  • Mill Shift Supervisors are responsible for providing coverage for other shifts when another Shift Supervisor is on vacation, out sick or away from work for any reason.

Requirements

  • BSc / HND in Engineering or related discipline
  • +7 years progressive experience in a rice mill facility including a minimum of two years as a mill shift supervisor.

Other Requirements, Abilities for the position:

  • Have demonstrated knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in operating, repairing and maintenance in a rice mill facility.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of theory and relationships between components in rice mill facility.
  • Skill in reading & interpreting information from instruments, charts, and schematic drawings.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel while also holding personnel accountable for their job performance.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies through the development of a team-based environment.
  • Skill in developing and implementing short-term operations plans.
  • Skill in selecting, training, and directing employees.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and monitoring subordinate employee work assignments to accomplish unit objectives.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner with plant employees at all working and management levels.
  • Ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the work place and display proper judgment in dealing with them appropriately.
  • Possess a working knowledge of micro-soft office programs (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.)
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize OSHA required training.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
  • Ability to work in contrasting plant environments
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.
