Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • S/he will develop a maintenance plan for all medical/ laboratory equipment across supported sites to assure optimal functionality.
  • S/he will assist in the implementation of the Equipment Management System across all clinical laboratories as well as Point of Care Testing
  • Establish system for calibration of equipment and ancillary equipment in consonance with ISO 17025:2017.
  • Conduct investigations to solve equipment problems using a variety of means to collate the necessary information, including questionnaires, interviews and group conferences
  • Keeps up to date with new developments in the field, nationally and internationally.
  • Oversee the periodic scheduled maintenance of all lab equipment across all supported sites in the state.
  • Supervise all lab equipment installation and training facility scientists/technicians in use of new equipment
  • Unsure all laboratory equipment and ancillary equipment are correctly capture on the asset register, in line with required reporting schedules
  • Deals with technical queries from hospitals and gives advice to clinical personnel on new equipment
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Biomedical Engineering and Associate Director/Head, Laboratory and Biosafety services

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least an HND / Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Electronic Engineering
  • 4 years post NYSC experience of running/implementing an equipment management system preferably in the NGO context.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency standard ISO 17025:2005; and ability to demonstrate independent judgment.
  • Experience in ancillary equipment calibration including but not limited to pipettes, centrifuges, fridges & freezer and vortex mixer.
  • Experience in the maintenance of Partec Cyflow CD4 analyzers, Centrifuges, and other medical equipment and analyzers.
  • Familiarity with standards and federal/state regulations affecting the laboratory and laboratory practices.
