Job Purpose

  • The personnel will assist the Laboratory Services Manager to design, plan and implement of quality laboratory services and any core service delivery laboratory-related activities.
  • S/he will also assist inter-phasing with other technical Units for optimal laboratory-related day-to-day activities in the unit.

Specific duties & Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will report to the Laboratory Manager for all Laboratory Services and shall under the guidance of the Laboratory Head, shall assist with providing technical support in the design, planning, and implementation of laboratory services and the following task
  • Assist with coordination and oversight on the functionality and optimization of clinical laboratory servicesrelated activities across all States, healthcare facilities and communities.
  • She/he will assist with the evaluation of laboratory methods and procedures; and conduct periodic laboratory system assessment and reviews of activities.
  • The job holder will oversee the design and implementation of core laboratory services processes focusing on Multi-Disease Testing - AHD, CD4, GeneXpert, TB-LAM & CrAg)
  • Align Laboratory Continuous Quality Improvement to optimized service delivery, and the deployment and institution of appropriate corrective and preventive action respectively.
  • S/he will review and monitor QA and QC activities of the Laboratory to determine conformance with established policies, national regulations, or accreditation requirements.
  • S/he will be responsible for the design, coordination and implementation and monitoring of the Advance HIV Disease (AHD) Laboratory program
  • S/he will monitor the system for optimal service delivery reporting in Laboratory Information System.
  • S/he will assist with the design and coordinate a system for the real time monitoring of laboratory functionality and CD4 and GeneXpert equipment capacity utilization and optimization.
  • S/he will support in resolving quality-related issues on service delivery and leveraged on existing CQI approaches to achieving targets.
  • Support Lab systems and processes review that impacts on Service delivery
  • Compile, analyze and monitor trends on the functionality and optimization of all Clinical laboratory services as well as laboratory-related activities.
  • Prepare progress reports of laboratory activities, lab program implementation and lab quality issues. Perform any other duties assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Ability

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory-related degree an added advantage
  • A valid certificate to practice as Medical Laboratory Scientist is mandatory.
  • 4 years' coordination of running/implemental-timely health programs preferably in the NGO context.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design, implementation, and management of laboratory services in HIV/AIDS programs or any other public health leverage retention program.
  • Experience in an ART public laboratory program setting is mandatory
  • Demonstratable background in GeneXpert molecular tuberculosis diagnosis using (near) point-of-care, IVT/Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT), and COVID-19 testing is required.
  • Familiarity with standards and federal/state regulations affecting the laboratory and laboratory practices.
  • Excellent personal communication skills, in written and verbal English, with high impact influencing and persuasive skills and able to represent the organization to donors and partners
  • Good experience using Ms. Word, Excel or applicable software related to the position
  • Commitment to and understanding of the organization’s vision, values and principles including rights-based/gender approaches would be expected.
