Job Title: Assistant Manager, Health Safety & Environment

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

  • Perform workplace, incidents investigations and corrects substandard acts and conditions.
  • Conducts regular training and retraining exercises for new recruits, all workers, supervisors and management and where necessary, provides workers with written instructions as to the procedures and measures to be taken for the protection of a worker.
  • Ensure that the workplace is monitored and is fully in compliance with all applicable OSHA standards, rules and regulations in order to maintain safety in manufacturing facilities
  • Coordinating with the Management, Contractors, and local government authorities on HSE matters.
  • Ensure the implementation and maintenance of 5S and lean manufacturing as well as assist in the development and implementation of high safety standards.
  • Assist in the completion of annual audit of the company’s health and safety standards and liaise with senior management for the review and revision of company’s health and safety standards where needed.
  • Ensure that safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained, and communicated to employees.
  • Generate an ongoing safety awareness attitude in all staff through disclosure of topical information relating to health and safety.

Job Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a First Degree in Engineering, with specialization in QHSE or related discipline
  • At least 5 years working Post -NYSC experience
  • Prior knowledge of Occupational health and safety within the industry is preferred
  • HSE Qualification such as NEBOSH, ISPON, General Certificate or equivalent
  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA, EPA) and procedure
  • Good appreciation and working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to write reports in clear terms using a mixture of words, charts, graphs etc
  • Must be able to interact effectively with people- staff, regulatory agencies and customers alike
