A leading International Boarding School in Lagos is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountant

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • Maintain the books of accounts and general ledger of the school.
  • Raising of Payment vouchers and transfer instructions
  • Perform the role of Stock Controller
  • Perform account receivable functions

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Raising of Payment vouchers and capture same into the School Accounting System.
  • Perform the role of stock controller- Work with the various inventory officers to carry out weekly and monthly stock taking and reconcile Bin card with system version.
  • Positing of Receivable (School Fees and others) into respective students’ accounts.
  • Maintain other memorandum accounts as may be directed by the HOF
  • Raise period end journals
  • Perform General Ledger (GL) reconciliation including:
    • Reconcile the GL account on a periodic basis for completeness and accuracy, identify transaction and posting errors.
    • Monthly Bank reconciliations
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Head, Finance & Accounts

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Competencies
Education and Work Experience:

  • First Degree in Accounting or any other related discipline
  • Relevant professional qualifications (ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA) or part qualifications (i.e. qualifications ‘in-view’) is mandatory
  • Minimum of seven (7) years relevant experience.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Good knowledge of financial accounting, including local and international accounting financial reporting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Good knowledge of financial controls and systems including the use of accounting packages.
  • Understanding of local tax regime & legislation and implications for the School
  • Attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • High sense of responsibility, accountability and dependability
  • High integrity and ethical standards.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office productivity tools.
