Pandagric Novum Limited was incorporated in 2006 under the name Novum Agric Industries. The business commenced operations in 2010, with the manufacture and distribution of commercial poultry feed, and in 2018, through a consortium of international and local investors, commenced its expansion and backward integration, which involves the expansion of its manufacturing activities, warehousing capacity and commercial farming activities.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Safety Spotter

Location: Panda, Nasarawa
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Grade / Level: Junior Staff
Reports to: HSE Manager & Head HSSE
Supervises (Direct/ Indirect): Nil

Job Objective(s)

  • To identify HSSE risks and issues and develop mitigation measures to ensure compliance with good international industry practice.
  • To enforce safety compliance
  • To help coach and assist with the creation of an embedded safety culture
  • Assist management on all matters pertaining to HSSE activities while on shift.
  • The duties will encompass all areas of operations and PNL business activities/processes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conducting daily site visits / inspections, ensuring compliance with safety requirements and standard operating practices (SOP’s), offering assistance and advice to management and all employees to enhance HSSE matters in the workplace.
  • Report on and escalate reporting of Incidents/Accidents. Assist in investigating accidents and make recommendations to reduce possible re-occurrence.
  • Immediate Management of all incidents and the collection of necessary statements and scene evidence.
  • Attend health and safety committees’ meetings when required.
  • Monitoring the usage of prescribed protective clothing and equipment by all employees whilst performing their duties. Taking corrective action where weaknesses are observed by informing the employee and /or his / her supervisor.
  • Assisting in identifying safety training needs and making recommendations to the HSE Manager.
  • Ensuring that Safety Induction for all contractors working at PNL is enforced.
  • Notifying Department Heads of employees not complying with company safety regulations.
  • Inspect all permits to ensure they are valid which will include, hot work, roof, confined space, and other company permits.
  • Monitor and ensure that permit risk assessments are done, especially during breakdowns. Facilitate work teams with the identification of risks if and when required.
  • Make use of the safety card system when necessary. Reporting and investigation of near miss incidents.
  • Report incidents of spills of an environmental nature to the departmental managers and HSE Manager.
  • Attend to critical break downs and observe HSSE behaviour of employees at the work place. Facilitate and guide risk assessments and improvements where required.
  • Assist line management with risk assessments, and conduct planned job observations.
  • Ensure that all firefighting and first aid equipment is 100% and in a good serviceable condition at all times.
  • Report all fire risks to the HSE Manager for assessment.
  • Monitor waste areas and assist with the management of these areas together with the HSE Manager.
  • Support all security functions on PNL property.
  • Completion of require Photo Image Reports and conducting of monthly safety inspections as required.

  • 100% compliance with approved procedures and processes
  • 100% achievement of assigned tasks within the allotted time

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree or advance training in the field of HSSE.
  • 2-3 years relevant experience working in a similar role
  • Knowledge, Experience and Understanding in the application and implementation of safety standards & principles
