Project on Capacity Development for Nutrition Improvement (CADNIP) is a five-year project jointly implemented by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It started in March 2019 to develop an effective food-based nutrition improvement approach in rural areas and strengthen the multi-sectoral structure of the FCTA for its implementation. In 2022, the Project team newly selected six pilot sites, where various nutrition and agricultural interventions will be implemented with frontline officers to improve the nutrition status of its target people. At the same time, the Project aims to enhance the institutional capacity of the FCTA in a multi-sectoral approach on nutrition improvement.

JIN Corporation, a Japanese consulting company specializing in international development, is currently implementing this Project under the contract funded by JICA. The Project seeks for an experienced individual in agriculture to join the team as technical staff. Hence, we are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Staff (Technical) for Project on Capacity Development for Nutrition Improvement in FCT, Nigeria

Location: Abuja (FCT)

General Description of the Position

  • Technical staff (Agriculture): Full-time
  • Assignment: Abuja in FCTA including AMAC and Gwagwalada AC
  • Under the supervision of and close communication with Japanese consultants, the project staff shall conduct both technical and administrative tasks required for effective management and implementation of the Project.

Working period

  • From February 2023 to January 2024 (1 year)
  • Starting time can be negotiable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and/or conduct training of trainers for the project counterparts, such as government officers and extension agents of the FCTA;
  • Support the project counterparts to conduct training for the target people as well as provide training participants with technical instructions and knowledge;
  • Support technically the project counterparts (agricultural extension agents of the FCTA) and the target people of each pilot site to establish and maintain demonstration plots for crop production techniques for the above-mentioned training, and monitor continuously the management status;
  • Liaise between the Project, the Counterparts, and the target groups in the community on the implementation of the Project activities;
  • Contribute to updating operational guidelines, manuals, and training materials used for nutrition and agricultural interventions of the Project;
  • Support the procurement of agricultural inputs, materials, and equipment for project implementation;
  • Plan and participate in field surveys periodically in the pilot sites to collect data necessary for problem identification, project planning, monitoring, and impact analysis, providing instructions to research assistants hired for data collection;
  • Plan, prepare, implement and report on administrative and technical meetings, workshops, and seminars both at the field and inter-departmental or ministerial levels as assigned by Japanese consultants and take the minutes of those meetings and events;
  • Maintain acceptable standards of quality for assigned tasks and expected deliverables, including all required reports and administrative and logistic support requested by the Project;
  • Facilitate communication and coordination among the project stakeholders to achieve smooth operation of the project activities;
  • Communicate with other organizations to coordinate and/or implement necessary activities as instructed by the Japanese consultants;
  • Support and work collaboratively with other technical staff of the Project to implement project activities effectively under the supervision of Japanese consultants;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Japanese consultants.

Required Qualification/Skills

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, preferably in Crop Production (Horticulture)
  • At least two (2) years or more of work experience in agricultural extension or any agriculture-related sectors. Those with longer working experiences and technical expertise in the supervisory capacity, including providing technical oversight of the communities and government counterparts, are highly valued.
  • Experience working for international development organizations, NGOs, and/or government agencies in relevant fields is highly preferred.
  • Excellent demonstrated ability to effectively interact with local communities, professionals, government counterparts, private sectors, and other implementing partners in Nigeria.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Hausa is required; knowledge of other local languages common in FCTA is an asset.
