Job Summary

  • The Incumbent will provide support in developing and managing health programs that maximize development results and impact.
  • The successful candidate will be a key member of the senior management group and will assist in the implementation of HIV/AIDS treatment and other health sector programs in Nigeria.
  • He/she will provide technical support to supported facilities in establishing protocols for HIV/AIDS treatment and allied health services that are consistent with national guidelines.
  • Incumbent will have strong competences and experience in adolescent and young people care, pediatrics treatment and demonstrable skills to provide technical support for multidisciplinary HIV/AIDS care and treatment, working with organization clinicians and health facility-based site teams to implement care and treatment services especially in adult.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance to health care facilities supported by CIHP in the state. Such assistance include training of staff in clinical management of HIV/AIDS, initiating and supervising ART clinics at hospital level, Ongoing mentoring and supportive supervision to pediatric and adolescent clinicians, assisting facility-based teams to develop/improve Pediatric and adolescent care systems, referral systems, adherence support systems, patient flow, medical records etc.
  • Provides technical support to supported facilities in establishing protocols for adolescent and young people HIV/AIDS treatment and related services that are consistent with national guidelines.
  • Builds capacity of facility personnel to better implement their role in the technical planning, management and evaluation of clinical issues related to functional adolescent programs.
  • Develops and refines program materials such as clinical guidelines, protocols, algorithms, drug formularies and training materials.
  • Ensures provision of qualitative care for adolescent and young women across all supported sites
  • Works with state team to expand Youth wellness center and adolescence care package.
  • Partnership with Vocational Training Institutes/Community Based organizations on skills acquisition for young people attending centers for site sustainability.
  • Develops and implements a pediatrics transition program from infected children through adolescence to adult to improve pediatrics retention, positive adjustment and better quality of life.
  • Supports the expansion of adolescent friendly differentiated care model
  • Serves as a resource for the evaluation of ongoing Pediatric care and treatment programs and in the subsequent development of new and/or expanded programs for the care and treatment of HIV/AIDS in infants, children and teenagers.
  • Reviews program data to identify hotspots to optimize HCT in adolescent and young women to increase yield.
  • Designs and implements quality improvement program using various strategies
  • Prepares management reports and updates as required
  • Mentors and train new interns.
  • Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director, Clinical Services.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health or a related field; or a Master's Degree or equivalent in Public Health or related fields residency in internal medicine
  • At least 5 years’ post NYSC experience in developing country health care programs or program support function
  • Knowledge of the policies, regulations, reporting formats, and cultures of principal donors, including USAID, EC, DFID, CDC/PEPFAR, and others
  • Extensive clinical experience in care and treatment of HIV/AIDS patients
  • Demonstrated experience in non-profit sector in a program management role
  • Strong supervisory and management skills
  • Analytical Thinking & Conceptualization
  • Leadership and cross learning capacity
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and make reasoned judgments in a timely fashion.
  • Committing to a course of action without undue delay or prevarication
  • Experience of dealing with difficult and sensitive situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
