Job Title: Head Teller

Location: Owerri, Imo, Nigeria.

Job Description
  • FINCA is recruiting for an experienced, motivated and hands-on Head Teller (HT) to join FINCA's microfinance bank in Nigeria. The Head Teller is part of the branch management team and the job holder reports to the Banking Services Supervisor. The Head Teller is to work with the Banking Services Supervisor to ensure all entries posted in the Branch have been properly authorized as per the Authorization arrangements, vouchers are timely and accurately posted and ensure the laid down procedures are properly followed at all times .Also managing proper controls on all branch operations and ensure clear and logical filing system , clean and well-arranged rooms (strong room, book room and stationary). The HT also has the responsibility of carrying out other duties at the branch in line with the financial regulations of FINCA Nigeria.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Post entries which have been authorized as per the laid down procedures
  • Get confirmation on Large Transactions from originating department, where in doubt
  • Escalate any Suspicious Instructions or Payments as appropriate to Branch Manager
  • Maintain quality control on the day to day operations in the Branch, freely share views on the areas with controls lapses
  • Maintain records of loan documentation and liaise with Customer Service Officers on exceptions
  • Process reversals for wrongly posted transactions by Tellers in line with pre-defined approvals
  • Ensures that the branch office is properly staffed and that the staff is trained to meet customer service needs as well as sales objectives
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements; ensures that the office and all personnel adhere to the same.
  • Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the office and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged
  • Manage the Loan Processing Function to ensure effective turnaround time, quality of loan documentation, and call over of all loan creation
  • Close all exceptions raised by either Internal Auditors or External Auditors within set time-lines.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Branch Management.
Financial Responsibility:
Conserves organizational resources and works within budget guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience
  • HND/Bachelor's degree in Business Admin or related numerical fields
  • 3/4 years of relevant experience in banking Operations
  • Exposure to lending practice is desired
  • Strong Supervisory and people management skills and experience
  • Fluency in English required, Igbo language proficiency is beneficial
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
